WITHOUT GIVING UP

Luke 18: 1-8

And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them?

Are there people in the world without scruples? Certainly, there are those who work entirely for their own benefit and ambition without looking at the consequences of their actions.

That was who accused the widow in this story. A woman, poor and forsaken by society was at the point of being driven out of her home because of her debts. Treated unfairly, after appealing innumerable times to a judge, she managed to get him to listen to her and consider her cause, granting justice.

The parable does not claim that the value of prayer is in insisting to the point of causing discomfort. But indeed it does exhort us to the persistence and tenacity with which we ought to pray. A key is the attitude of the widow with her powerful attitude and strength in persevering that did not let her faith waver.

Sad, happy, or preoccupied, let’s approach prayer with our whole being, aware of that direct communion with God. We will get answers one way or another. Let’s pray in communication with and for others.

 

Prayer: Lord, help us to be persistent in the face of the situations that confront us in life, praying to you, confident in your justice. Amen.

SIN DESISTIR

Lucas 18: 1-8

¿Y no hará Dios justicia a sus escogidos, que claman a Él día y noche? ¿Se tardará mucho en responderles?

Lucas 18:7

 

¿En el mundo existen personas sin escrúpulos? Sí, las hay que todo cuanto hacen es para su propio beneficio y ambición, sin mirar las consecuencias de sus actos.

 

Así era quien acusaba a la viuda en esta historia. Una mujer, pobre y desamparada por la sociedad estaba a punto de ser expulsada de su casa a causa de sus deudas. Tratada injustamente, tras remitirse incontables veces ante un juez, consiguió que éste la atendiera y considerara su causa, haciéndole justicia.

 

La parábola no reclama que el valor de la oración esté en insistir hasta el extremo de causar molestia. Pero sí nos exhorta a la persistencia y a la tenacidad con la que debemos orar. Una clave es la actitud de la viuda, con su gran disposición y esfuerzo en perseverar no dejó caer la fe.

 

Tristes, alegres o preocupados, acerquémonos a orar con todo nuestro ser, conscientes de esa comunión directa con Dios. Y obtendremos las respuestas, de una forma u otra. Oremos en comunicación con y por los demás.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que podamos ser persistentes ante las situaciones que enfrentamos en la vida, orando a ti, confiando en tu justicia. Amén.
