Following God’s Guidance

Acts 16:6-10

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

This passage in Acts shows us a rare occasion where Paul is “kept” from carrying out the mission work to which he had been called. He intended to proclaim the gospel in different regions, but the Spirit prevented him from doing so.

Trying to understand everything before obeying God, says the author, will take away our joy. God is not really going to answer all our whys. But trusting in God and obeying Him even when we don’t understand, is a sign of true faith. This is a faith that knows that it walks in God’s hands, that knows how to wait when it is necessary, that knows how to decide when circumstances such as these indicate it and that, even, does not doubt when everything seems to be falling apart. (Let us remember that the trip to Macedonia resulted in the stay in Philippi, which culminated in the imprisonment of Paul).

There are times when obedience is the first step in order for God to work. Certainly, the Lord will not do anything that we are responsible for doing first. To the children of Israel that clamored to Moses in the face of Pharaoh’s threat and trapped on the shores of the Red Sea, the divine command was: tell them to go.

Prayer: Enable us, O God, to learn to trust your Word and to obey it, knowing that with every thing that you ask of us, there is a blessing that will be poured out upon your people. Amen.

Seguir la guĂa de Dios

Hechos 16:6-10

Encomienda al Señor tus obras, y tus pensamientos serĂ¡n afirmados

Proverbios 16:3
