GOD LIVES IN US

Genesis 41:29-38

So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”  (NIV)

I recently read a book in which God appears before a man who, losing a son, loses faith and interest in his family and his life. This was the voice of God that came to him: “I do not want you to be my follower, but to carry me within you.” And that is precisely what Pharaoh said of Joseph: a man in whom is the Spirit of God.

Why did the people who met Joseph see the Spirit of God in him? Despite having been sold by his brothers, having been a slave, being unjustly imprisoned, Joseph always trusted that his God had a plan for him. He was obedient, strong in the face of temptations, patient in the face of adversity.

With the power that Pharaoh had given him, when he met his brothers again, he had no desire for revenge, he had compassion on them and forgave them. He interceded for his family and his people and brought them to Egypt. He could be like that because he carried the Spirit of God deep within him.

And we? Can we say that others recognize that we are filled with the Spirit of God? Am I patient in the face of problems, do I express sincere humility, do I show compassion to the needs of my neighbor, can I forgive when I am hurt? Reflecting on these questions can help us show that the Lord is in us.

 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your love and for the possibility of feeling your presence in us. Give us the strength and constancy so that by your grace we can show you to those around us. Amen.

DIOS VIVE EN NOSOTROS

Génesis 41:29-38

Y dijo Faraón a sus siervos: ¿Acaso hallaremos a otro hombre como éste; en quien esté el espíritu de Dios ?

Recientemente leí un libro en el que Dios se presenta ante un hombre que, al perder a un hijo, pierde fe y el interés por su familia y su vida. Esta fue la voz de Dios: “No quiero que seas mi seguidor, sino que me lleves dentro de ti”. Y eso es precisamente lo que Faraón dijo de José: un hombre en quien está el espíritu de Dios.

¿Por  qué las personas que se encontraban con José veían al Espíritu de Dios en él? A pesar de haber sido vendido por sus hermanos, haber sido esclavo, de estar en la cárcel injustamente, José siempre confió en que su Dios tenía un plan para él. Fue obediente, fuerte ante las tentaciones, paciente  frente a las adversidades. Con el poder que le había dado Faraón, cuando volvió a encontrarse con sus hermanos no albergó deseos de venganza, tuvo compasión de ellos y los perdonó. Intercedió por su familia y su pueblo y los trajo a Egipto. Pudo ser así porque llevaba muy dentro de sí el Espíritu de Dios.

¿Y nosotros? ¿Podemos decir que los demás reconocen que estamos llenos del espíritu de Dios?  ¿Soy paciente ante los problemas, expreso sincera humildad, muestro compasión ante las necesidades de mi prójimo, puedo perdonar cuando me hieren?  Reflexionar en estas preguntas nos pueden ayudar a mostrar que el Señor está en nosotros.

Oración: Gracias, Señor, por  tu amor y por la posibilidad de sentir tu presencia en nosotros. Danos la fortaleza y la constancia para que por tu gracia podamos mostrarte a los que nos rodean. Amén.
