GOD BELIEVES IN YOU

PSALM 100:5

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1

You are going through a very difficult time!  For some reason, the panorama has changed entirely, your strength has deteriorated little by little and you’re feeling like you can’t go on anymore. Your desire to move forward is there, hidden somewhere.  Your mind refuses to believe in yourself anymore. Many people consider you to be a failure, at times even your family and friends.  And it’s because the mistakes that you may have made have lead you to reflect a poor image to other people.  Our enemy’s actions also come into play; his work is to deceive in all sorts of ways. He subtly whispers sentences into your ears to make you lose all the confidence you had to move forward.

We sometimes forget that the perception that God has of us is very differient than what anyone else can have or even than the one we have of ourselves. God believes in us.  He knows what we can do. God did not choose you so that you could be a failure.  He didn’t call you so that you could back down.  He knew very well that in His hands you can be a new and good creation, that under his wings you would find confidence, and above all, that He would lift your head to make you more than triumphant.

Perhaps nobody believes in you right now, not even those whom you love.  Maybe you don’t even believe in yourself.  But God still believes in you as much as always.  He still sees you as a person filled with virtues, talents and precious gifts.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for always believing in me, and for making me see how valuable I am to you. Amen.

DIOS CREE EN TI

SALMO 100:5

Mirad cual amor nos ha dado el  Padre,

para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios…

 1 Juan 3:1

¡Qué momentos más  duros los que estás experimentando! Por alguna razón  todo el panorama ha cambiado, tus fuerzas poco a poco se van acabando y sientes que no puedes más. Tu deseo  de seguir adelante está allí, escondido por algún lugar. Tu mente se rehúsa a creer más  en ti. Hay muchas personas para las que eres un  derrotado, a veces incluso para familiares y amigos. Y es que los errores que quizás has cometido te han llevado a reflejar una mala imagen delante de las personas. También entra en acción nuestro enemigo, aquel que su trabajo es decir toda clase de mentiras. Aquel que viene sutilmente  a susurrar a tu oído frases que quieren hacerte perder toda la confianza que tenías en salir adelante. A veces se nos olvida que el concepto que Dios tiene de nosotros es muy distinto al que cualquier otro puede tener o aun  al que tenemos nosotros mismos. Dios cree en nosotros. Él sabe  lo que somos capaces de hacer

Dios no te escogió para ser un derrotado, no te llamó para que retrocedieras. Él sabía muy bien que en sus manos puedes ser una nueva y buena creación, que bajo sus alas ibas a estar seguro, y que sobre todo Él levantaría tu cabeza para hacerte más que victorioso.

Puede que en este momento nadie crea en ti, ni aun las personas que amas, puede que hasta ni tú mismo creas en ti. Pero Dios sigue creyendo en ti como desde el primer día, te sigue viendo como esa persona llena de virtudes, talentos y dones preciosos.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por creer siempre en mí, y por hacerme ver cuán valioso soy para ti. Amén.

THE ANCHOR OF OUR FAITH

2 TIMOTHY 2

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Have you ever left or wanted to leave the Church because you thought it wasn’t teaching genuine biblical doctrine?  Or because, according to your criteria, it hasn’t labored judiciously with respect to an issue? If the apostles had been discouraged each time they faced an obstacle, and had abandoned the calling made by their Teacher, where would the Church be today?

Paul had already warned that “rapacious wolves” would enter the flock to try to destroy the sheep. Fortunately, the Gospel leads people to Christ and helps them to grow in Him. To pass over this purpose is to pass over the mission that Christ gave to his Church. (Matthew 28:19-20) Let us not abandon the task and let us continue to build the kingdom, amid difficulties. Let us share Christ’s teachings instead of our own convictions.  Let us use the word for the edification of his kingdom among ourselves.

Let us use these verses as a hymn for our lives:  Amid trials, the church forges ahead, with nothing to deter it from preaching.

Prayer: God of love, help us to remain firm in our faith, amid the difficulties we must confront.  Do not allow anything to detour us from your pathway, and may it be your truth that we preach, and not our own. Help us to accomplish the mission that Christ gave to his Church. Amen.

EL ANCLA DE  NUESTRA FE

2 TIMOTEO 2

Procura con diligencia presentarte a Dios aprobado,

como obrero que no tiene  que avergonzarse,

que usa bien la palabra de verdad

2  Timoteo 2:15

¿Se ha ido alguna vez o ha querido irse de la Iglesia porque no se enseñaba, según usted, la genuina doctrina bíblica; o porque según su criterio no se ha obrado con justicia ante algún asunto?

Si los apóstoles se hubieran amilanado ante cada obstáculo y hubieran abandonado el llamado que les hizo su Maestro, ¿Qué hubiera sido de la Iglesia hoy?

Pablo ya había alertado que “lobos rapaces” entrarían en un esfuerzo por destruir el rebaño.

Afortunadamente, el Evangelio lleva a las personas a Cristo y les ayuda a crecer en Él. Pasar por alto este propósito es pasar por alto la misión que Cristo le dio a su Iglesia. (Mateo 28:19-20)

No abandonemos la tarea y sigamos edificando el reino, en medio de las dificultades. Compartamos las enseñanzas de Cristo y no nuestras propias convicciones. Usemos la palabra para la edificación de su reino entre nosotros.

Hagamos de estos versos un himno para nuestras vidas: En medio de las pruebas la iglesia sigue caminando, nada la detiene para predicar

Oración: Dios de amor, ayúdanos a mantener firme nuestra fe, en medio de las dificultades que tendremos que pasar. Que nada nos desvíe de tu camino y que sea tu verdad la que prediquemos y no la nuestra. Ayúdanos a cumplir con la misión que Cristo le dio a su Iglesia.  Amén.

SHE HAS NEVER SINCE SMILED AGAIN

PSALM 27:1-3

The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

Psalm 27:1

I’ve been observing a neighbor in my community for some time now. Her smile has completely disappeared from her face.  She was a smiling person; her joy was contagious.  She was a person who always had a smile for everyone no matter her own circumstances. But something happened to suddenly make her lose that smile that made her unique and which many of us envied in an agreeable manner.  We all go through such moments: those moments in which the last thing we want to do is to smile; those moments in which we feel that nothing will satisfy us; in which, no matter how much we want to smile, the desired smile fails to appear.

In those moments, God wants to see that smile on our faces once again.  And that is precisely when we close ourselves off: we don’t speak to anyone; we quit praying.  It’s as if sadness had taken us by surprise, and despite wanting to renounce this feeling that ties us down, we cannot. There are always people who want to help us in those moments, but we distance ourselves from them.  But God wants to place a beautiful smile upon our faces; He wants us to know that the circumstances do not matter. He has always been by our side.  And even if things didn’t turn out the way we wanted, that means that His plans are better than the ones you had.

Smile because you are worthy; smile because He chose you; smile because in your darkest moments, His hand has sustained you; smile because He has not forgotten you; smile with the assuredness that God is acting in your favor.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your promise to be with us every day until the end.  In your name we pray. Amen.

Celebración de la Iglesia dependiente en Paraíso Obrero

ELLA NO HA VUELTO A SONREÍR

SALMO 27:1-3

Jehová es mi luz y mi salvación; ¿de quién temeré?

Salmo 27:1

Desde hace algún tiempo vengo observando a una vecina de mi comunidad. Su sonrisa se le ha borrado del rostro. Era una persona sonriente, que contagiaba alegría, una persona que siempre tenía una sonrisa para todos a pesar de cualquier circunstancia que estaba pasando. Sin embargo, algo pasó para que de pronto fuera perdiendo aquella sonrisa que la hacía ser única y que más de uno envidiábamos de sana manera. Y es que todos pasamos por esos momentos: momentos en los que lo menos que queremos hacer es sonreír, esos momentos en los cuales sentimos que nada nos satisface, en los que por más que queramos esa sonrisa anhelada no aparece. En esos momentos, Dios desea ver nuevamente esa sonrisa en nuestros rostros; y es precisamente ahí donde más nos encerramos en nosotros mismos: no hablamos con nadie, dejamos de orar. Es como si la tristeza nos tomara por asalto, y a pesar de querer renunciar a este sentimiento que nos ata, no podemos. En estos momentos siempre hay personas que nos quieren ayudar, pero nos alejamos de ellas. Pero Dios quiere fabricarnos una hermosa sonrisa en nuestro rostro, quiere que sepamos que no importan las circunstancias. Él siempre ha estado a nuestro lado. Y aunque las cosas no salieron como esperabas, eso significa que sus planes son mejores que los que tú tenías.

Sonríe porque vales, sonríe porque Él te escogió, sonríe porque en tus momentos más duros su mano te ha sostenido, sonríe porque Él no se ha olvidado de ti, sonríe con la seguridad de que Dios está actuando en tu favor.

Oración: Gracias Jesús, por tu promesa de estar con nosotros todos los días hasta el fin. En tu nombre oramos,  amén.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

2 SAMUEL 12:1-15

But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

2 Samuel 11:27

One of the best things about our relationship with God is that there is always an opportunity to begin anew.  The Bible affirms this repeatedly, as is the case with today’s verse. Throughout the Bible we can see stories of people of faith who experienced a new chance at life.  Today I want to refer specifically to David, the sweet Israelite singer.  The man who wrote such beautiful psalms and who had been chosen by God from his youth to be the next king of Israel, in fact, became the most beloved in the history of that country to the point of being called by God “a man after God’s own heart.”  But this man did not always do the right thing; he was not always perfect.  In David I see a normal man, with strengths but also with weaknesses. But above all I see a man with a sincere heart before God, much like we are today.

This is a sad story, because even though David sinned, I am sure that he felt very badly.  Because no one who tries to hide one’s sin feels good about it; even when we have a sincere relationship with our God.

The story of David’s sin is very much like our own. Perhaps not in the same areas, but indeed in the same manner:  we do what we don’t want to do and then everything becomes complicated. I think we all know how this feels.  We have all felt ashamed before God for having done the opposite of what we should have done.  God knows about it, and He knows us; just as He knew David, and even though David sinned, God forgave him and gave him the chance to start over again.  You and I are given the same opportunity today.  Let us know how to make the most of it.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for the new opportunities you give us every day. Help me to make the most of them through my heartfelt repentence. Amen

NUEVAS OPORTUNIDADES

Mas esto que David había hecho era desagradable

ante los ojos de Jehová

2 Samuel 11:27

Una de las mejores cosas en nuestra relación con Dios es que siempre hay una nueva oportunidad para comenzar. La Biblia lo afirma en reiteradas ocasiones como es el caso del versículo de hoy.  A través de la Biblia podemos ver historias de personas de fe que experimentaron una  nueva oportunidad para su vida. Hoy quiero referirme en especial a David, el dulce cantor de Israel. Aquel hombre que escribió salmos tan hermosos y que desde joven fue escogido  por Dios para ser el próximo rey de Israel, de hecho, fue el rey más querido de la historia de ese país y hasta fue llamado por Dios como “Un hombre conforme a su corazón”. Pero este hombre no siempre hizo lo bueno, no siempre fue perfecto. Veo en David un hombre normal, con fortalezas, pero también con debilidades, pero sobre todo con un corazón sincero delante de Dios, muy parecido a nosotros hoy día.

Esta es una historia triste, porque aunque David falló, estoy segura de que se sintió muy mal. Y es que nadie que peca ocultamente  se siente satisfecho; más aún cuando tenemos una relación sincera con nuestro Dios.

La historia del pecado de David es muy similar a la nuestra; no tal vez en las mismas áreas, pero sí de la misma forma: hacemos lo que no queremos y luego todo se nos complica. Creo que todos sabemos lo que es sentirse así.  Todos hemos sentido la vergüenza delante de Dios de haber hecho lo contrario a lo que deberíamos hacer. Dios lo sabe, y nos conoce; al igual que conocía a David, y aunque este falló, Dios lo perdonó y le dio una nueva oportunidad. La misma oportunidad que hoy nos ofrece a ti y a mi. Sepamos aprovecharla.

Oración:  Gracias Señor, por las nuevas oportunidades que nos das a diario. Ayúdame a aprovecharlas arrepintiéndome de corazón. Amén.

A LONG AND NARROW PATH

1 CORINTHIANS 12

But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.

1 Corinthians 12:31

There is a weed that we may have planted as of our childhoods or as we grow up, due to financial, social and cultural inequalities which allow, so to speak, for these malignant plants to grow within the hearts of some people, and to cause them a great deal of harm. Its name is envy.  When parents do not know how to guide a child who is faced with the desire to possess the toy of another child, or do not recognize the virtues and abilities of their children, we begin to accentuate in them the habit of not sharing with others; of looking at what others have done that they would like to do themselves, or to possess the things they lack and that others have.

We put so much thought into what others have, that we do not perceive the virtues that we possess and the gifts that God has bestowed upon us. The Lord has given each one of us one or more gifts, and yet, no one is more important than anyone else. It is up to us to discover and to develop these gifts so that the Lord can use us in his great ministry.  We all carry within ourselves a light that is reflected on our faces, and in our daily dealings.  One who is sure of oneself is understanding, good, affectionate, without being an extremist in one’s judgment of others.  If at some point in your life you need to point out an erroneous attitude to a fellow believer, this warning or advice should not contain any hatred, nor destruction nor of taking advantage of the situation.  We should know how to express our criticism without hurting another’s feelings.  Human happiness cannot be found in another’s good fortune.  There are those who enjoy life more as they destroy the life of another, but such a person will never be able to gain eternal life.

Prayer: Lord, grant that I use my gifts in service to the community, that I may walk only on your path planting flowers without thorns that may harm another. Amen.

UN CAMINO ESTRECHO Y LARGO

1 CORINTIOS  12

Procurad pues los dones espirituales,

mas yo les muestro un camino aún más excelente

1 Corintios 12:31

Existe una mala hierba que quizás la sembramos ya desde la niñez o a medida que crecemos debido a las desigualdades económicas, sociales y culturales que permiten,  por así decirlo, que florezcan estas plantas malignas que crecen en los corazones de algunas personas y en gran medida hacen mucho daño. Su nombre es la envidia. Cuando los padres no saben guiar al niño ante el deseo de poseer un juguete de otro niño, o no reconocen en sus hijos sus virtudes y aciertos, vamos acentuando en ellos el hábito de competir con los demás, de mirar que ha hecho el otro que yo quisiera hacer o que tiene el otro que yo no posea. Ponemos tanta fuerza de pensamiento en lo ajeno que no nos percatamos de las virtudes que poseemos y de los dones que Dios nos ha dado. El Señor a cada uno de nosotros nos ha otorgado uno o más dones y no por ello uno es más importante que el otro. Nos toca a nosotros descubrir y desarrollar los mismos para que el Señor nos pueda utilizar en su gran ministerio. Todos llevamos dentro una luz que se refleja en nuestro rostro, en nuestro andar cotidiano; quien está seguro de sí mismo, es comprensivo, bueno, cariñoso,  sin ser extremista en la forma de enjuiciar a los demás. Resulta saludable que si en un momento de tu vida debes señalar a un hermano una actitud errónea, este señalamiento o consejo no debe contener odio, ni el ánimo de destruir, ni de sacar provecho de la situación. Debemos saber expresar nuestro criterio sin herir los sentimientos ajenos. La felicidad humana no podemos buscarla en la dicha ajena, hay quien disfruta más de la vida mientras más destruye la vida del otro, pero esa persona jamás podrá alcanzar la vida eterna.

Oración: Señor, permite que use mis dones al servicio de la comunidad, que ande solo en tu senda sembrando flores que no tengan espinas que dañen al prójimo. Amén.

A GOOD FOUNDATION FOR A BETTER WORLD

1 CORINTHIANS 3

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11

In my years as an elementary school student, I didn’t understand the meaning of the word “foundation,” which formed part of a verse that appeared at the school’s entrance: No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. My mother’s counsel advised me to have a foundation in everything I did, advising me to be serious, well-mannered and disciplined.  As I grew and studied, I added synonyms to foundation:  cement, cornerstone, principle, root, source, etc. until I could understand the importance of a good foundation for the security and length of an edification. Bit by bit the verse which I recited by heart every school day began to acquire another dimension.

Our relationship with God and with human beings can experience a radical change if we believe in these words of Peter and of Paul; if we meditate on them, and don’t consider them to be outdated or for other people. Our hearts will open to Jesus Christ and our lives will undergo a change.  If we have already experienced this or we feel that we are approaching this extraordinary experience, we cannot nor should we believe that this is a personal and intimate conviction, but that we need to transmit it to others. Don’t we all aspire to a better world filled with hope, joy, and peace?  A world of mercy, compassion and solidarity?  Such a world can only be realized when all humanity lays aside the fever of power and of money. When people, leaving aside self-sufficiency, make their own those other words of Peter: Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the word of eternal life. [John 6:68].

Prayer: Lord, move us, break our inertia that we might share with others your message of hope and of a new life.  Amen.

UN BUEN CIMIENTO PARA UN MEJOR MUNDO

1 CORINTIOS 3

Porque nadie puede poner otro fundamento

que el que está puesto, el cual es Jesucristo.

1 Corintios 3: 11

En los años en que era una estudiante de primaria no comprendía bien lo que significaba la palabra " fundamento" la cual formaba parte de un versículo que aparecía a la entrada del edificio del colegio.: .... nadie puede poner otro fundamento que el que está puesto, que es Jesucristo… Los consejos de mi mamá me exhortaban a tener fundamento en todo lo que hacía, aconsejándome seriedad, formalidad y disciplina. A medida que fui creciendo y estudiando, fui añadiendo sinónimos a fundamento: cimiento, piedra angular, principio, raíz, origen, etc. Hasta que llegué a conocer la importancia de un buen cimiento para la seguridad y duración de una edificación. Poco a poco el versículo que repetía de memoria cada día escolar, iba adquiriendo otra dimensión.

Nuestra relación con Dios y con los seres humanos puede experimentar un cambio radical si creemos en estas palabras de Pedro y de Pablo. Si meditamos en las mismas y no pensamos que fueron dichas para otras gentes y que son anticuadas. Nuestro corazón se abrirá a Jesucristo y nuestras vidas sufrirán una Si ya hemos experimentado esto o sentimos que nos vamos acercando a esta extraordinaria experiencia no podemos ni debemos conformarnos con que éste sea un convencimiento personal e íntimo sino que tenemos que trasmitirlo a otros. ¿No aspiramos todos a un mundo mejor lleno de esperanzas, alegrías y paz? ¿Un mundo de misericordia, compasión y solidaridad? Pues este mundo sólo se hará realidad cuando toda la humanidad deje a un lado la fiebre de poder y de dinero. Cuando los hombres, dejando a un lado su autosuficiencia,  hagan  suya aquella otra frase de  Pedro ... ¿Señor,  dónde iremos si sólo tú tienes palabra de vida eterna?

Oración: Señor, muévenos, rompe nuestra inercia para poder compartir con otros tu mensaje de esperanzas y de una nueva vida. Amén.

SEPARATING THE DARKNESS

JOHN 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1

The use of the phrase the Word, [“verb” in Spanish] as used by John when talking about Jesus, certainly captures our attention.  In elementary school, we were taught that the verb, because it is the action of the subject, is the most important part of the sentence. By indicating action, it indicates life and between life and light there exists a close relationship.

The world around us depends on light; not on just any light, but on the light of God. Jesus himself affirms:  I am the bread of life, the good shepherd, the way, the truth and the life, true life; and I am the light of the world, he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.

God is light and in Him there is no darkness.  If we say that we are in communion with Him, and we walk in darkness, we are lying and we are not practicing the truth. Therefore, let us separate ourselves from the things which belong to the darkness, the things that are themselves darkness. And let us go out filled with light to enlighten others with the experiences and testimonials of having been born again to a life of hope, love and faith; a life in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, help us to separate the darkness and to live filled with your light. Amen.

APARTAR LAS TINIEBLAS

JUAN  1: 1-5

En el principio era el verbo, y el verbo

era con Dios y el verbo era Dios.

Juan 1: 1

Seguro que nos llama la atención la palabra verbo, que Juan utiliza para hablar de Jesús.

Sabemos desde la enseñanza primaria, que el verbo en una oración, es la acción del sujeto, y lo más importante de la oración. Por lo que al indicar acción, indica vida y entre vida y luz existe una estrecha relación.

El mundo que nos rodea depende de la luz, pero no de cualquier luz, sino de la luz de Dios

Jesús mismo afirma: Yo soy el pan de vida, el buen pastor, el camino, la verdad y la vida, la vid verdadera; y yo soy la luz del mundo, el que me sigue no andará en tinieblas sino que tendrá la luz de la vida.

Dios es luz y en Él no hay tinieblas, si decimos que tenemos comunión con Él, y andamos en tinieblas, mentimos y no practicamos la verdad. Por eso, apartemos las cosas que son de la oscuridad, las cosas que son propias de las tinieblas y salgamos llenos de luz a alumbrar a otros con las experiencias y los testimonios de haber nacido a una nueva vida de esperanza, amor y fe, una vida en Cristo Jesús.

Oración: Ayúdanos Señor a apartar las tinieblas y a vivir llenos de tu  luz. Amén

THE PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING

ISAIAH 26:1-8

You will keep in perfect peace…

Isaiah 26:3

Once I decided to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, I feel that my life completely changed. Without a doubt, I turned into a person filled with much peace and trust in the God in whom I have believed.  At times, when I have had to encourage a brother or sister who was going through a crisis or illness, I’ve asked myself how I would react in such circumstances. Would I patiently and calmly accept God’s responses? And then the day came when I had to confront a great problem:  my eldest daughter had decided to go to live with her family in the United States.  She called me one day and told me that she might have uterine cancer.  Her distance from me made my situation more serious. I immediately got down on my knees to pray and to intercede for my daughter and a verse came to mind which I am sharing with you today.

After praying, an inner peace filled my soul. I prayed every day and hoped in the Lord without despair. After some time, my daughter told me that the test had been an error, a mistake.  God had sent me a sign, an answer to my requests.  I felt his voice whispering to me:  Your daughter is healthy.

Prayer: Glory to you, Lord, who listens to the clamor of mothers and who fills our hearts with peace at difficult moments. We give you thanks because even when your answer to our prayers may not be the return to good health that we desire, we can feel your faithful hand helping us to move forward.  Amen

Una vez que me decidí a seguir los pasos de Jesús siento que mi vida cambió completamente. Sin dudas, me volví una persona llena de mucha paz y confianza en el Dios en quien he creído.

En ocasiones, cuando he tenido que animar a algún hermano o hermana que atravesaba por una situación de crisis o enfermedad, me he preguntado cómo reaccionaría yo ante tales circunstancias. ¿Aceptaría con paciencia y tranquilidad las respuestas de Dios?

Hasta que llegó el día en el que tuve que enfrentarme a una gran prueba: mi hija mayor que decidió irse a vivir con su familia a los Estados Unidos, me llamó un día y me dijo que posiblemente tuviera un cáncer de útero. La distancia de ella agravaba mi situación. Inmediatamente me puse de rodillas a orar e interceder por mi hija y vino a mi mente el versículo que hoy comparto con ustedes. Después de la oración una paz interior llenó mi alma. Oré cada día y esperé en el Señor sin desesperación. Después de un tiempo, mi hija me comunicó que la prueba había sido un error, una equivocación. Dios me había enviado una señal, una respuesta a mis plegarias, Sentí que su voz me susurraba: tu hija está sana.

Oración: Gloria a ti Señor, que escuches el clamor de las madres y en momentos difíciles llena de paz nuestros corazones. Te damos gracias porque aunque tú respuesta a nuestras oraciones no sea la sanidad que anhelamos, podemos sentir tu mano fiel ayudándonos a caminar. Amén.

WORTHY FRUITS

MATTHEW 3:1-12

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance…

Matthew 3:8

Not all people have enough faith to believe in repentance. Repentance is something that sprouts within us from the bottom of our hearts, where God has put it; and at a determined moment, be it for one reason or for another, leads us to prostrate ourselves at God’s feet.

We often confess that we have repented of our errors, but we sense that some people don’t believe us.  And that happens because those people are not convinced of the transformational power of God. 

The Word tells us, “Cursed be the man who trusts in man…” But by the same measure the Word of God tells us, “Blessed be the man who puts his trust in Jehovah…”

There are those who say. “I haven’t anyone to trust in,” or they say: “I don’t even trust my own shadow.” This is because they don’t know that they can always trust God; He is our true confessor. “…don’t look to the arrogant, nor to those who have deviated after their lies.” Always put your eyes on the Lord and trust in Him, assuredly He will always receive you because He sees your heart with sincere thankfulness.

Brothers and sisters, show the Lord that we are willing to produce worthy fruits of repentance.

Prayer:  Oh God, we ask that a healthy repentance may sprout from the depths of our hearts. Amen.

FRUTOS DIGNOS

MATEO  3:1-12

Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento...

Mateo  3:8

No todas las personas tienen la fe suficiente para creer en el arrepentimiento. El arrepentimiento es algo que nos brota de lo profundo del corazón donde Dios lo ha puesto y que en un momento determinado de la vida, sea por una razón u otra, nos lleva a postrarnos por completo a los pies de nuestro Dios.

Muchas veces confesamos estar arrepentido de nuestros errores, pero sentimos que algunas personas no nos creen. Y esto sucede porque estas personas  no están convencida del poder transformador de Dios.

La palabra nos dice: “Maldito el hombre que confía en el hombre…” Pero a su vez esta misma Palabra de Dios nos dice: “Bienaventurado el hombre que puso en Jehová su confianza…”

Hay quienes dicen: “Yo no tengo nadie en quien pueda confiar” o dicen: “Yo no confió ni en mi sombra.” Esto es porque no saben que en Dios siempre se puede confiar, “Él es nuestro verdadero confesor. “…No mires a los soberbios, ni a los que se desvían tras la mentira”. Pon tus ojos siempre en el Señor y confía en Él, de seguro siempre te recibirá,  porque Él mira tu corazón con  sincero agradecimiento.

Hermanos y hermanas, mostrémosle al Señor que estamos dispuestos a dar frutos dignos de arrepentimiento.

Oración: Oh Dios,  te pedimos que hagas brotar siempre de lo profundo de nuestros corazones un sano arrepentimiento. Amén.

ECCLESIASTES  3

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under heaven.

A time to be born, a time to die;

a time to plant and a time to uproot;

a time to kill and a time to heal;

 a time to tear down and a time to build up. 

Ecclesiastes 3:1-3

I confess that for a long time I’ve been staggered by more and more news of sick people, people who have passed, problems I’ve needed to address in conversations with brothers. News that reflect the adversities that we as humans pass through in this world created by God. That, tied to the convulsive situation in which our world lives, makes me feel very worried. During this time, as never before in my life, I’ve asked God, “Do evil and good times exist in our lives?” And then these words of Ecclesiastes came to mind, reminding me of the cycle that life is.  

We should ask ourselves, as did the anti-fascist pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was executed by firing squad in a Nazi concentration camp, regarding his vocation: “What did Jesus want to tell us? What is his will for us today? How can He help us to be better Christians in the modern world?  

It’s time to rediscover our identity, the reason for our existence, our vocation, our role in the world and in history; or simply put: what is the will of God for our lives right now? That is where we will find good fortune and happiness. Don’t permit the turbulent winds that life brings us, to reduce our capacity to love, our desire to fight and serve, so that our lives might be more abundant.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to understand that this is always the time to love. Amen.

Un momento para nacer, y un momento para morir.

Un momento para plantar, y un momento

Eclesiastés 3:1-3

Les confieso que desde hace mucho tiempo estoy consternado por tantas y tantas noticias de personas enfermas, de personas fallecidas, de problemas que he tenido que confrontar en conversaciones con hermanos. Noticias que reflejan los contratiempos que tenemos que pasar los seres humanos en este mundo creado por Dios. Eso,  unido a la situación convulsa que vive nuestro mundo,  me hace sentir muy preocupado.  Durante este tiempo le he preguntado a Dios como nunca antes en mi vida: ¿Existen tiempos malos y tiempos buenos en nuestra vida?  Y vinieron  a mi mente las palabras de este texto de Eclesiastés, donde se hace una rememoración de lo cíclica que es la vida.

Preguntémonos como el pastor antifascista Dietrich Bonhoeffer, fusilado en un campo de concentración Nazi, en respuesta a su vocación: “¿Qué quiso decirnos Jesús a nosotros? ¿Cuál es su voluntad para nosotros en el día de hoy? ¿Cómo puede Él ayudarnos a ser mejores cristianos en el mundo moderno?”

Es tiempo de redescubrir nuestra identidad, la razón de nuestra existencia, nuestra vocación, nuestro rol en el mundo y en la historia, o sencillamente cuál es la voluntad de Dios para nuestra vida ahora. Allí esta la dicha y la felicidad. No dejemos que los vientos turbulentos que la vida nos presenta, aminoren nuestra capacidad de amar, nuestro deseo de luchar y servir para que nuestra vida sea más plena.

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a entender que todo tiempo es bueno para amar. Amén.

CHANNELS, NOT STOREHOUSES

JAMES 2:14-17

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,”

but does nothing about their physical needs…

James 2:15-16 

Individualism is an attitude that daily takes on more weight in our human relationships. From childhood on we learn to compete, to be “the best,” instead of cooperating to achieve goals together. Children’s games are an example.  On occasion, when the games don’t take on competitive nuances for my children, they become bored, and smiling they tell me “Nah, this is no fun.” It seems that the values of solidarity, compassion, and cooperation are more difficult to undertake than the negative values of selfishness, insensitivity, and individualism. And thus, bit by bit, this attitude takes hold of our character up to the point of costing us dearly to detach ourselves from the things that supposedly give us comfort and security. Lamentably, most of these things are material, thus aggravating the spiritual condition. If, as children, we learn to compete with others to become better, to accumulate more things, and to succeed at the expense of others, then later as adults it will be costly to us to detach ourselves, to allow space, to work together and to share.

I heard someone challenging us to become channels instead of being warehouses. And that is the exhortation for today: that we may be channels of blessing, offering solidarity, timely assistance, human warmth, and bread that satisfies hunger. We must stop being closed warehouses that accumulate things because, in the end, the soot corrodes. 

Prayer:  God of mercy, challenge us so that we may be channels of blessing in others’ lives. Help us to detach ourselves from selfishness and individualism. Amen.

Santiago 2:14-17

…Y si un hermano o una hermana están desnudos,

y tienen necesidad del mantenimiento de cada día,

y alguno de vosotros les dice: Id en paz, calentaos

y saciaos, pero no les dais las cosas que son necesarias

para el cuerpo, ¿de qué aprovecha? 

Santiago 2:15-16 

El individualismo es una actitud que toma cada día más valor en nuestras relaciones humanas. Desde niños, aprendemos a competir para ser “el mejor”, más que a cooperar para lograr una meta juntos. Una muestra de ellos son los juegos infantiles. En ocasiones, cuando los juegos no tienen el matiz competitivo a mis niños les parecen aburridos. Y me dicen sonriendo: Ah no, así no tiene gracia. Pareciera como si los valores de la solidaridad, la misericordia y la cooperación fueran más difíciles de asumir que los antivalores del egoísmo , la insensibilidad y el individualismo. Y así esto se va apoderando de nuestro carácter hasta el punto de que nos cuesta desprendernos de las cosas que consideramos nos dan confort y seguridad. Lamentablemente la mayoría de estas cosas son materiales, agravando así nuestra situación espiritual. Si desde niños aprendemos que tenemos que ser mejores, acumular, más cosas, tener éxito por encima de los demás; una vez que seamos adultos, nos costará desprendernos, ceder espacios, solidarizarnos, compartir. Escuché a alguien desafiarnos en el sentido de que debemos ser un canal y no un almacén. Y esa es la exhortación para hoy, seamos canales de bendición, para brindar solidaridad, ayuda oportuna, calor humano y pan que sacia el hambre. Dejemos de ser almacenes cerrados para guardar cosas que al final de cuentas el hollín corroe.

Oración: Dios de misericordia, desafíanos para que seamos canales de bendición en la vida de los demás. Ayúdanos a desprendernos del egoísmo y el individualismo. Amén

         OUR TREASURE IS JESUS

MATTHEW 13: 44-46

…the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field…

Matthew 13:44

Why does Jesus compare the Kingdom of God to a treasure if, as much in his world as in ours, this term pointed to something that has a price tag or material value? I think it is because he is suggesting  that, in the same way in which people who discover the existence of a treasure, they don’t stop searching until they have found it. Therefore, this is how humans should endeavor to obtain the Kingdom of God.

                  The Kingdom of God is that inexplicable something, whose transcendence and whose value is limitless. What’s peculiar in its nature is that no map is needed to know where it is; it’s not necessary to dig deep in the earth to reach it with one’s hand; it’s not necessary to seek it in the ocean’s depths so that we can grab hold of it. The Kingdom of God, unlike all possessions, is something within your reach, my reach – everyone’s reach. Jesus, in all humility, is asserting that this treasure containing salvation and abundant life is for everyone. In his time, very few could grasp its incalculable value. Therefore, he openly calls for us to more closely contemplate God’s will and God’s image in his person. Not with the objective of being recognized and exalted; rather so that we are all able to reorient our lives toward the will of the Father, with God as our starting point. We must also reorient ourselves and our lives toward the recognition of the greatness of Jesus.

Certainly, even though all the things we have may be very valuable from a human standpoint, they’re ephemeral, temporary, corruptible. He is the most exalted, the truest, the most enduring, the most precious. And the wealth of love, friendship and commitment he has offered you in your lifetime are indeed very valuable.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to internalize this beautiful thought that says: I choose Christ before all else…All the kingdoms of the world can’t compare with Him. I choose Christ, I’ll stay with Him. He is the hidden treasure I fervently seek. Amen.

         NUESTRO TESORO ES JESÚS

MATEO 13: 44-46

… el reino de los cielos es semejante

a un tesoro escondido n un campo…

¿Por qué Jesús compara el Reino de Dios con un tesoro, si tanto en su medio como en el nuestro, este término apunta hacia algo que tiene un precio o un valor material? Pues lo hace porque él pretendía que de la misma manera en que las personas que se enteran de la existencia de un tesoro, no descansan hasta hallarlo;  así el ser humano debe procurar obtener el reino de Dios.

El Reino de Dios es ese algo, un tanto inexplicable cuya trascendencia y cuyo valor no tiene fin. Lo peculiar en su carácter de tesoro es que no hay que buscar un mapa para saber dónde está; no hay que cavar profundo en la tierra para tenerlo al alcance de la mano; no hay que buscarlo en el fondo del mar para apoderarse de él. El reino de Dios, a diferencia de todas las posesiones, es algo que está al alcance de ti, de mí, de todos. Jesús con toda humildad se proclama como ese tesoro que contenía  salvación y vida en abundancia para todos. En su medio muy pocos habían sido capaces de considerar su incalculable valor. Por tanto, de forma abierta él efectúa un llamado a contemplar más de cerca la voluntad de Dios y la imagen de Dios en su persona. No con el objetivo de ser reconocido y exaltado; sino con el propósito de que partiendo de él todos fueran capaces de orientar sus vidas hacia la voluntad del Padre. Se hace necesario que tú también reorientes tus pasos y tu vida hacia el reconocimiento de la grandeza de Jesús. Ciertamente todas las cosas que tenemos, aunque desde el punto de vista humano tengan mucho valor, son efímeras, temporales, corruptibles. Él es lo más grande, lo más cierto, lo más duradero, lo más valioso. Y son valiosos su  amor, su amistad, su entrega y todo aquello que durante tu propia vida te ha ofrecido a caudales.

Oración. Señor, ayúdanos a interiorizar este lindo pensamiento que dice: “Prefiero a Cristo antes que tener... Todos los reinos del mundo, no se comparan con Él. Prefiero a Cristo, me quedo con Él. Es el tesoro escondido que tanto busqué.”  Amén.
