“PAIN PASSES

BUT BEAUTY REMAINS”

2 SAMUEL 22:17-20

History is full of examples of men and women who patiently endure pain and suffering, and thereby accomplish a great deal. Beethoven became deaf. Franklin D. Roosevelt lived with paralysis. Pierre A. Renoir, famous for his intense use of color, suffered with a debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. He sometimes tied a paintbrush to his immobilized and deformed fingers to carry out his work. Once he was asked, “Why do you keep painting with such agony?” He replied, “The pain passes, but the beauty remains.”

When, strengthened by God, we patiently endure suffering, both physical and emotional, we can attest to the truth of these words.

In today’s reading, David praises God for having freed him from his enemies and delivering him to a safe place. Amid trials, when his very life was in danger, David remained faithful, trusting in God, knowing that He delights in his people.

Our pain will pass, but the beauty of God’s work in us and through us will remain.

Prayer: Our good God, thank you for the strength which we find in you.  Amen.

La historia está repleta de ejemplos de hombres y mujeres que soportaron con paciencia el dolor y el sufrimiento, y aun así lograron mucho.

Beethoven se quedó sordo. Franklin D. Roosevelt vivió con una parálisis facial. El pintor impresionista francés Pierre A. Renoir, famoso por su uso intenso del color, sufría de una debilitante artritis reumatoide. A veces se amarraba un pincel a sus dedos inmóviles y deformados para poder seguir con su obra. En una ocasión le preguntaron: “¿Por qué sigues pintando con semejante agonía?” Él contestó: “El dolor pasa, pero la belleza permanece”.

Cuando nosotros, fortalecidos por Dios, soportamos con paciencia el sufrimiento, tanto físico como emocional, podemos afirmar la verdad de estas palabras.

En la lectura de hoy, David alaba a Dios por haberlo librado de sus enemigos y llevarlo a un lugar seguro. En medio de las pruebas, cuando su propia vida estaba en peligro, David permaneció fiel, confiando en Dios y sabiendo que Él se deleita en su pueblo.

Nuestro dolor pasará, pero la belleza de la obra de Dios en nosotros, y a través de nosotros, permanecerá.

Oración: Gracias nuestro buen Dios, por la fortaleza que encontramos en ti. Amén.
