LOVE: THE MOST IMPORTANT GIFT

1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-8

And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;

 and the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NRSV)

            From the very beginning of our lives we feel love; it is a gift from God. The family is the primary space where we receive love and learn to love. Beginning with our loved ones, even our pets are the object of our filial love. Then we share this feeling with our friends or with a partner. We come to love our homeland and even an ideal, a project, a dream . . . but the most perfect expression of love is God.

            The Letter to the Corinthians speaks to us of this love, which is permanent, comprehensive and not vengeful–a love which avoids what is hurtful and rejoices and participates in the good which comes to our neighbor. When we love, our service is disinterested, and our actions are directed toward the search for and acceptance of God’s truth.

            From creation we see the immense love that God gave us. Let’s join ourselves to the words of the Apostle Paul: to have love is to overcome everything, to believe everything, to hope everything, to endure everything. Will we be able to love like this?

            Let’s search honestly for the true love of God and share it with all his creation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us. Help us to love others as you have loved us. Allow us to always treat all around us as sisters and brothers. Amen.

AMOR: EL DON MÁS IMPORTANTE

Y ahora permanecen la fe, la esperanza y el amor…

pero el mayor de ellos es el amor                           

1 Corintios 13:13

Desde el comienzo de nuestra vida, sentimos amor, es un regalo de Dios. La familia es el primer espacio donde recibimos amor y aprendemos a amar. Desde nuestros seres queridos, hasta nuestros mascotas son objeto de nuestro amor filial. Luego compartimos este sentimiento con nuestros amigos y amigas, o con nuestra pareja.   Llegamos a amar a nuestra patria, e incluso una idea, un proyecto, un sueño… pero la expresión más perfecta del amor es Dios.

La carta a los Corintios nos habla de ese amor, que es permanente, comprensivo y no vengativo. Un amor que evita lo hiriente y se alegra de lo bueno que hay con el prójimo y participa de ello. Cuando amamos nuestro servicio es desinteresado, y nuestras acciones se encaminan hacia la búsqueda y aceptación de la verdad de Dios.

Desde la creación vemos el inmenso amor que Dios nos regaló. Unámonos a las palabras del apóstol Pablo: tener amor es superarlo todo, creerlo todo, esperarlo todo, soportarlo todo. ¿Seremos capaces de amar así?

Busquemos honestamente el verdadero amor de Dios y compartámoslo con toda su creación.

Oración: Padre celestial, gracias porque nos amas. Ayúdanos a amar a otros como tú nos has amado. Permite que practiquemos siempre la sororidad y la fraternidad a nuestro alrededor. Amén.
