WE TRUST IN GOD AND RISE ON WINGS

ISAIAH 40:28-31

but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength,

 they shall mount up with wings like eagles…

            Arctic Terns leave from a point a few degrees from the North Pole. Crossing two hemispheres, they reach Antarctica itself, but perhaps that is not so astonishing as the return. They have to fly 17,000 km day and night solely on the strength of their wings. Nevertheless, they will do all that to return to the exact same place where the year before they left their nest. And they will fly over waves that would wreck many a ship, overcome storms that the most modern of aircraft would not approach, and leave behind icy regions that would defeat expeditions equipped with the greatest technology. They won’t be tempted by tropical shores. Their destiny is in the North, and sooner or later they will arrive there exactly as planned.

            If the humble tern can exert all this effort to achieve its goal, why can’t we also do the same? We have the wings of our souls to drive us towards what we need. We have the Holy Spirit that guides us on this journey and accompanies us during its duration. We must draw from our inner strength not to give up either by day or by night. We must not succumb to the temptation to alight on easy shores. Nor do we believe that our flights will be exempt from storms or tempests, but our call to achieve the goal, the objective, must be stronger. Although for much of the time we see only the froth of waves that would confound and dismay us, we are sure that we will arrive.

            The humble tern does it. You can do it also.

            We must not concentrate solely on our limitations, on what we lack; we must trust in God and we will rise in flight.

Prayer: Beloved God, let us in this day be like the terns that do not cease in their efforts to cross the sea. Lead us with your Holy Spirit so that we may not falter amid difficulty. Amen.

CONFIEMOS EN DIOS Y ALCEMOS EL VUELO

ISAÍAS 40:28-31

Pero los que confían en el Señor,

recobran las fuerzas y levantan el vuelo…

Isaías 40:31a

Las golondrinas del mar salen desde algún punto a pocos grados del polo norte. Cruzando dos hemisferios llegarían a la mismísima Antártica. Pero tal vez eso no asombre tanto como el regreso. Deben volar 17 000 kilómetros con la sola fortaleza de sus propias alas, y hacerlo de día y de noche. Sin embargo, todo eso lo harán para llegar al mismo punto exacto donde el año anterior dejaron su nido. Y volarán por sobre las olas que podrían hacer naufragar a muchas embarcaciones, sortearán tormentas a las que el más moderno de los aviones no se atrevería, dejarán atrás heladas zonas capaces de hacer fracasar a las expediciones equipadas con la mayor tecnología. No se dejarán tentar por costas tropicales. Su destino está al norte; y más tarde o más temprano allí llegarán, exactamente como se lo habían propuesto.

Si la humilde golondrina del mar puede realizar todos estos esfuerzos por lograr su objetivo ¿Por qué no lo lograremos nosotros? Tenemos las alas de nuestras almas para impulsarnos hacia lo que haga falta. Tenemos el Espíritu Santo que nos guía en este camino y nos acompaña durante el trayecto. Tendremos que sacar de nuestro interior la fortaleza para no cejar en nuestro intento ni de noche ni de día. No debemos dejarnos tentar por descender a las costas fáciles. Tampoco creer que nuestros vuelos estarán exentos de tormentas o tempestades. Pero nuestro llamado a llegar a la meta, al objetivo, debe ser más fuerte. Aunque durante mucho tiempo al mirar veamos solo olas encrespadas queriéndonos confundir y hacer desmayar, estemos seguros de que llegaremos.

La humilde golondrina llegó. Tú también lo harás.

No nos concentremos tanto en nuestras limitaciones y en lo que nos falta, confiemos en Dios y alcemos el vuelo.

Oración: Dios amado, permítenos en el día de hoy ser como las golondrinas que no cesan en su empeño por cruzar el mar. Guíanos con tu Santo Espíritu para que nuestra fe no decaiga aun en medio de las dificultades. Amén.
