HOPE IN THE MIDST OF PAIN

JOB 19:25-27

and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God. . . and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!

Job 19:26,27b (NRSV)

            When we were beginning to edit this issue of Su Voz, the sad news came to us that caused suffering for all Cubans and in all the world: a plane rented by Cubana Aviation to cover the Havana-Holguin route failed to reach its destination. At the start of its flight, it dove into a field of crops near the airport, leaving more than a hundred people dead, their stories buried. It is at times like this that we are left speechless, without horizons. It is at times like this that we are left numb because nothing is the same; all is an unending gray before our eyes. However, in times like this we can feel the power of the light and divine peace which propels us to continue the journey of faith in hope. This is how Dietrich Bonhoeffer expressed it in one of his writings:

Darkness reigns in me,

but in You is light;

I am alone, but You do not abandon me;

I am discouraged, but in You is help;

I am uneasy, but in You is peace;

bitterness dominates me, but in You is patience;

I don’t understand your ways,

but You know the path for me.

Prayer: God of life, we pray for your light, your comfort, your peace for all the families of the victims of this terrible accident. Give us the strength to share your hope amid disorientation and profound sadness.

ESPERANZA EN MEDIO DE DOLOR

También sé que he de contemplar a Dios, aún cuando el sepulcro destruya mi cuerpo (...) y lo veré con mis propios ojos, aun cuando por dentro ya estoy desfalleciendo

Cuando comenzábamos la edición de este número de Su Voz, llegó a nosotros la triste noticia que causó el dolor en todos los cubanos y en todo el mundo: un avión rentado por Cubana de Aviación para cubrir la ruta Habana-Holguín no podía llegar a su destino. Al iniciar su vuelo, se precipitó a un campo de cultivos, cerca del aeropuerto, y dejó más de un centenar de personas fallecidas e historias sepultadas. Es en momentos como este en el que quedamos sin palabras, sin horizonte. Es en momentos como este en el que se remueven nuestros sentimientos de tal manera que ya nada es igual, un gris perpetuo nubla nuestra mirada. Sin embargo, en medio de esta tristeza podemos sentir el poder de la luz y la paz divina que nos anima a continuar el camino de la fe en esperanza.  Así lo expresa Dietrich Bonhoeffer en uno de sus textos.

Reina en mí la oscuridad,

pero en Ti está la luz;

estoy solo, pero Tú no me abandonas;

estoy desalentado, pero en Ti está la ayuda;

estoy intranquilo, pero en Ti está la paz;

la amargura me domina,

pero en Ti está la paciencia;

no comprendo tus caminos,

pero Tú sabes el camino para mí.

Oración: Dios de la vida, pedimos tu luz, tu consuelo y tu paz para todos los familiares de las víctimas de este terrible accidente. Danos fuerzas para compartir tu esperanza en medio de la desorientación y la tristeza infinita.
