FAITH . . . BUT WITH WORKS

JAMES 2:14-26

  But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works: Show your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. Do you want to be shown, you senseless person, that faith apart from works is barren?

 James 2:18, 20 (NRSV)

            I have always liked the Epistle of James because he goes straight to the point, as we say in good Cuban Spanish.

            “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.” It would also be worth remembering “If we claim to be a follower of Christ without doing what he taught us to do we deceive ourselves, not others who see us every day–much less God– because you must remember that God is omnipresent; He is everywhere.” 

            Reading these texts, we must ask ourselves: Why say that I have Christ in my heart if my acts demonstrate the opposite? To what end do we preach Christ, if his word does not penetrate deeply into our hearts, driving us to live an authentic witness of faith?

            To be Christians without works is easy and comfortable, but with works …

            Let’s show what we preach with our lips, with our example, with our works.

Prayer: Jesus, we ask that we may learn to be doers of the word and not just hearers, that our witness be coherent and authentic! Guide us in this endeavor always, Lord. Amen.

SANTIAGO 2:14-26

Muéstrame tú fe sin tus obras, y yo te mostraré

mi fe por mis obras… más quieres saber,

hombre vano, que la fe sin obras es muerta

Santiago 2:18 y 20.

Siempre me ha gustado la epístola de Santiago, porque él va directo al grano, como decimos en buen cubano.

“El cuerpo sin el Espíritu es muerto, la fe sin obras también”. Valdría la pena recordar también: “Decirse seguidor de Cristo sin hacer lo que Él nos enseñó que hiciésemos, es engañarnos a nosotros mismos, no a los demás, porque estos nos están viendo a diario, y mucho menos a Dios, porque recuerden que Él es Omnipresente, está en todo lugar.”

Al leer estos textos nos preguntamos ¿Por qué decir que tengo a Cristo en mi corazón, si mi actuar demuestra todo lo contrario? ¿Para qué predicar a Cristo, si su palabra no cala con profundidad en nuestros corazones para impulsarnos a vivir un auténtico testimonio de fe?

Ser cristianos sin obras es muy fácil y cómodo, pero con obras…

Demostremos lo que predicamos con nuestros labios, con nuestro ejemplo, con nuestras obras.

Oracion: Te pedimos Jesús que aprendamos a ser hacedores de la palabra y no solo oidores de ella. ¡Qué nuestro testimonio sea coherente y auténtico! Guíanos en este empeño siempre, Señor. Amén.
