TO LOVE AND TO FORGIVE

LUKE 6:27-35

But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.

Luke 6:35 (NRSV)

How costly is what Jesus asks of us! We almost prefer eye for eye, tooth for tooth of the Old Testament. To love one who owes me money, to love the one who has betrayed me, to lend without expecting anything in return.

Yes, love and forgive; do what is good.

How much we must learn! What emotions to control so that we don’t become scurrilous and violent! What a great challenge: to be merciful as God is with us, every day, every minute!

Forgiving others even though what they have done to us is serious, even though it has hurt us so much that we want to hate them rather than pardon them, costs but is not impossible. God asks this of us, and with his example we will achieve it. He always loves us and forgives us, even though we offend him. He always receives us with open arms.

Prayer: Our merciful God, allow us the power to forgive without anger, as you forgive us every day. Transform our hearts and cleanse us from anger, hatred and selfishness. Let us always reap the fruits of meekness and reconciliation. Amen.

LUCAS 6:27-35

Jesús dijo: Ustedes deben amar a sus enemigos, y hacer el bien,

y dar prestado sin esperar recibir nada a cambio.

Lucas 6:35

¡Cómo nos cuesta esto que nos pide Jesús! Casi preferimos el ojo por ojo, diente por diente, del Antiguo Testamento.

Amar quien me debe dinero, amar quien me traicionó, dar prestado sin esperar nada a cambio. Sí, amar y perdonar, hacer el bien.

¡Cuánto tenemos que aprender! ¡Cuántas emociones que controlar, para no ser groseros y violentos!

Qué gran reto: ser misericordiosos como lo es Dios con nosotros, cada día, ¡cada instante!

Perdonar a los demás, aunque sea grave lo que nos hayan hecho, aunque nos haya dolido tanto que tengamos ganas de odiarlos en lugar de perdonarlos, cuesta, pero no es imposible. Dios nos lo pide, y con su ejemplo, lo lograremos. Él siempre nos ama y nos perdona, aunque lo ofendamos. Siempre nos recibe con los brazos abiertos.

Oración: Permítenos nuestro Dios misericordioso, poder perdonar sin rencores, como tú nos perdonas todos los días. Transforma nuestro corazón y sánanos de rencores, odios y egoísmo.  Permite que siempre cosechemos frutos de mansedumbre y reconciliación. Amén.
