All Saints Day

MY BROTHER WOULD NOT HAVE DIED

JOHN 11: 32-40

      For if we have been united with him in a death like his,

we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Romans 6:5 (NRSV)

Today, Christians remember with affection so many loved ones who have gone before on the way and now enjoy the presence of the Lord; according to the words of the visionary of Patmos we can affirm: Blessed from now on are the dead who die in the Lord.

We know people who are deeply afflicted by the death of family members. Often people who have prayed intercessions for health for their loved ones, when a fatal outcome occurs, and they die, then hold it against God believing that he has failed them and has not fulfilled his promises for health and restoration. And if that is the case, they then find themselves in a situation of rancor which generally culminates in their abandoning the faith.

For Mary, Lazarus’ sister, Jesus’ delay in responding to her call when her brother was sick was what had allowed Lazarus to die. But Jesus proclaimed a new kairos where God’s Reign breaks in and even death, that last enemy, has no power over life. Today, we should live fully confident that our faith in the Lord assures us a place together with him in his eternal glory. We should live with this expectation. Life in God is life eternal, even should death surprise us, it is abundant life to enjoy amid loss.

Prayer: Eternal God, we remember those faithful servants who are no longer here. We give thanks for their inspired lives and ask for the ability to be loyal and to know how to console others in their moments of grief. Amen.

MI HERMANO NO HABRÍA MUERTO

JUAN 11: 32-40

        Si hemos estado unidos con él en su muerte, sin duda

también estaremos unidos con él en su resurrección

Romanos 6:5

En este día los cristianos recordamos con afecto a tantos seres queridos que nos han precedido en el camino y hoy gozan de la presencia del Señor, conforme a las palabras del vidente de Patmos podemos afirmar: Bienaventurados de aquí en adelante los muertos que mueren en el Señor.

Conocemos a personas que se afligen en extremo ante la muerte de sus familiares. Muchas veces, personas que han estado en oración intercesora por sanidad para sus seres queridos, cuando ocurre un desenlace fatal y fallecen, entonces la emprenden contra Dios al creer que les ha fallado y no ha cumplido sus promesas de sanar y restaurar. Y si esto es así, se ven entonces en una situación de rencor que por lo general culmina en un abandono de la fe.

Para María, hermana de Lázaro, la demora de Jesús en responder a su llamada cuando su hermano estaba enfermo era lo que había permitido que Lázaro hubiera muerto. Pero Jesús le anuncia que hay un nuevo kairós donde el Reino de Dios irrumpe y aún la muerte, ese enemigo postrero, no tiene poder sobre la vida. Hoy debemos vivir confiados en que nuestra fe en el Señor nos asegura un lugar junto a Él, en su eterna gloria. Debemos vivir con esa esperanza. La vida en Dios es vida eterna, aunque la muerte nos sorprenda, es vida abundante, para disfrutarla aún en medio de la pérdida.

Oración: Dios eterno, recordamos aquellos siervos fieles que ya no están. Damos gracias por sus vidas inspiradoras y pedimos por la capacidad de ser leales y saber consolar a otros en sus momentos de duelo. Amén.
