THE LESSON OF THE HOURGLASS

EPHESIANS 5:15-16

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow… (NIV)

James 4:14

The silent and continuous flow of sand within the hourglass gives rise to an obsessive thought: these passing seconds will never return. Who can make the sand rise again?  In the same way, those chronometers that measure the hundredth and even thousandth of a second make us dizzy. When we see this rapid parade of numbers in a screen we brusquely take notice of time passing.

Now, in the present, human beings are called to serve their Creator. God seeks men and women enlivened by the certainty that time is a precious gift. We shouldn’t waste it, since it is given to us to glorify Him who gives it to us. We can never recover lost time.  Every minute that evaporates can never return. That is the lesson of the hourglass.

Today’s lesson reminds us that it’s wise to take good advantage of time. The opportunities God gives us to serve him will never return.  Time is fleeting. Make good use of it! Use well the limited time that God gives us to love and serve him.

Prayer: Beloved God, today we ask that you encourage us to make the most of the time and opportunities to serve you. Help us see how much we really need to do this. May our lives be a constant communion with you. Amen.

LA LECCIÓN DEL RELOJ DE ARENA

EFESIOS 5:15-16

No sabéis lo que será mañana

Santiago 4:14

La caída silenciosa y continua de la arena dentro del reloj da lugar a un pensamiento obsesivo: esos segundos que pasan no volverán jamás. ¿Quién puede volver a subir la arena? De igual modo, esos cronómetros que miden el centésimo e incluso el milésimo de un segundo nos dan vértigo. Cuando vemos en una pantalla ese veloz desfile de números, bruscamente tomamos conciencia del paso del tiempo.

El ser humano es llamado a servir a su Creador ahora, en el presente. Dios busca hombres y mujeres animados por las certezas de que el tiempo es un precioso regalo. No debemos malgastarlo, pues nos es dado para glorificar a Aquel que nos lo da. Nunca podremos recuperar el tiempo perdido. Cada minuto que se esfuma nunca podrá volver. Esa es la lección del reloj de arena.

La lectura de hoy nos recuerda que es sabio aprovechar bien el tiempo. Las oportunidades que Dios nos da para servirle jamás volverán.

El tiempo pasa ¡Aprovechémoslo! Utilicemos bien el tiempo limitado que Dios nos da para amarle y servirle.

Oración: Dios amado, te pedimos hoy que nos alientes para aprovechar al máximo el tiempo y las oportunidades de servirte. Ayúdanos a ver cuánto realmente lo necesitamos. ¡Qué nuestra vida sea una constante comunión contigo! Amén.
