YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

GALATIANS 5:18-23

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

We often hear people repeating the old adage: “You have to face the consequences for what you do,” which is not always true in our world, although it could happen without our realizing it.

Agripina, nicknamed “the younger,” was a Roman princess who lived from AD 15 to 59. She was the daughter of Agripina “the elder” and mother of Emperor Nero. She was married for the third time to Claudius who was the Emperor and her uncle. She convinced the ruler to adopt Nero, her son, which enabled him to ascend to the throne; and when he did this, she poisoned Claudius. In reprisal, months later, Nero had her assassinated.

We all know that Nero was the sworn enemy of Jesus’ followers, and his infamous story explains why we name our sons “Jesus” and our dogs “Nero.”

The sad story of Rome in those days gives us confirmation that: “As you sow, you shall reap.”

We don’t sow to harvest, it’s true; but it’s also true that we won’t harvest anything different from what we planted.

While living in this world, we are sowing peace, solidarity, and love. If we are not around for the harvest, someone who comes later will benefit from what we sowed.

Prayer: God of love, let me act in the best way possible, sowing your Word wherever I go. Amen.

GÁLATAS 5:18-23

Pero si sois guiados por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la ley

Gálatas 5:18

Muchas veces hemos escuchado que alguien repite la vieja sentencia: “El que la hace la paga”, cosa que no es siempre cierta en nuestro mundo,  aunque puede ser que suceda y no nos percatemos de ello.

Agripina, sobre nombrada “la menor” fue una princesa romana, entre los años 15 y 59 DC. Era hija de otra Agripina “la mayor” y madre del Emperador Nerón. Se casó en terceras nupcias con Claudio que era el emperador y a la vez su tío. Convenció al monarca a que adoptara a Nerón, su hijo; y logrado su propósito, consiguió envenenar a Claudio, lo que dejó libre el camino para que éste accediera al trono. En pago, meses después, el propio Nerón la hizo asesinar.

Todos sabemos que Nerón fue enemigo jurado de los seguidores de Jesús, y su historia tristemente célebre ha dado a lugar a que llamamos “Jesús” a nuestros hijos y “Nerón” a nuestros perros.

La lamentable historia de la Roma de aquella época nos ilustra que hay sobradas razones para afirmar: “Todo lo que el hombre sembrare, eso también segará”.

No sembramos para recoger, es cierto; pero no es menos cierto que no recogeremos nada diferente a lo que hemos sembrado.

Mientras estemos en este mundo vivamos sembrando la paz, la solidaridad y el amor. Si no logramos estar para el tiempo de la cosecha, alguien detrás se beneficiará con nuestra siembra.

Oración: Dios de amor, permíteme actuar de la mejor manera posible, sembrando tu Palabra por dondequiera que vaya. Amén.
