TO BE FREE IN CHRIST

GALATIANS 4:1-7

 Because you are his sons,

 God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts… (NIV)

Galatians 4:6a

In this exhortation by Paul to the Galatians the Apostle reminds us what the place of freedom should be in our faith lives.  From the past form of existence, characterized by enslavement, now God has made us free through Jesus his Son; now we enjoy the most perfect freedom.  

But this also brings us to profoundly reflect upon the consequences of living free in God. Is it that we should conduct ourselves responsibly, rather than abusing the freedom God has given us through Jesus his son? In no way, to the contrary. As Paul himself cautions, God’s Spirit speaks to us from the depths of our hearts, and that would be enough to work with faith and love, in response to God’s grace toward us as a song well states.    

To have the Spirit of God in our hearts today means to be free to proclaim the Gospel, far beyond whatever barrier that seeks to interpose. It means being sensitive enough not to be slaves of indolence, consumption, selfishness, hoarding, despair, violence, and many other constraints that limit the fullness of our life in Christ.

Let us respond positively and hopefully to the call of responsible freedom that God gives us.

Prayer:  Gracious God, make it so that we may always have hearts open to your will; to be truly free in you. Amen.

SER LIBRES EN CRISTO

GALATAS 4:1-7

 Y por cuanto sois hijos, Dios envió a vuestros corazones

el Espíritu de su Hijo…

Gálatas 4:6a

En esta exhortación de Pablo a los gálatas el apóstol nos recuerda cuál debe ser el lugar de la libertad en nuestras vidas de fe. De la pasada forma de existencia, sumida por la esclavitud, ahora Dios nos ha hecho libres a través de Jesús su hijo. Así que ahora gozamos de la más perfecta libertad.

Pero esto también nos lleva a reflexionar profundamente acerca de las consecuencias de vivir libres en Dios. ¿Es acaso que debemos conducirnos irresponsablemente, haciendo más bien abuso de la libertad que Dios nos ha dado a través de Jesús su hijo? De ninguna manera. Al contrario. Como el propio Pablo advierte, el Espíritu de Dios nos habla desde lo más profundo de nuestros corazones, y eso bastaría para obrar con fe y amor, en respuesta a la gracia de Dios para con nosotros, como bien dice una canción.

Tener en nuestros corazones hoy el espíritu de Dios significa ser libres para proclamar el Evangelio, más allá de cualquier barrera que pretenda interponerse; significa ser lo suficientemente sensibles para no ser esclavos de la indolencia, del consumo, el egoísmo, el acaparamiento, la desesperanza, la violencia… y tantas otras ataduras que limitan la plenitud de nuestra vida en Cristo.

Respondamos positiva y esperanzadamente al llamado de libertad responsable que nos hace Dios.

Oración: Dios bueno, haz que tengamos siempre corazones abiertos a tu voluntad, para ser en ti verdaderamente libres. Amén.
