THANKFULNESS ABOVE ALL

COLOSSIANS 3:17

Rooted and built up in him,

strengthened in faith as you were taught,

and overflowing with thankfulness.   (NIV)

How satisfying it is to deal with thankful people! Feeling gratitude from those whom we serve gives us satisfaction. The speed of modern life has made gratitude a forgotten thing. At times we neglect something so elemental, so important as gratitude.  

Many years ago, the prayer of a little child of five happily surprised me.  At lunch hour in his house he prayed saying, “Thank you, my God, for granddad’s little cow that gave me milk today, for the clusters of mango and mandarin, and the little chicken my aunt gifted me.”     

The older brother of the child made fun of his younger brother’s naivety, but the wise grandmother took advantage of the opportunity to give a lesson: “We should all learn to be thankful like Ismael.” There are many, uncountable and immeasurable favors that God provides us, always more than those we are able to express.

Thankful men and women should never forget giving thanks to God in and for everything. This gratitude must also be directed horizontally, expressing our respect and thanks to our neighbors.

With how much surprise and satisfaction the workers of the service sector regard us when we express our gratitude for their attention!

Let’s give thanks to God for everything, and our neighbor as well. 

Prayer:  Lord, we give you thanks for all your blessings and all your love toward us. Amen.

AGRADECIMIENTO POR ENCIMA DE TODO

COLOSENSES 3:17

Arraigados y sobreedificados en él, y confirmados en la fe, así como habéis sido enseñados, abundando en acciones de gracias.

Colosenses 2:7

¡Gracias! ¡Muchas gracias! ¡Cuánta satisfacción nos causa tratar con personas agradecidas! Nos da satisfacción el sentir gratitud de aquellos a quienes servimos.

La rapidez de la vida moderna ha hecho olvidar la gratitud. A veces descuidamos algo tan elemental, tan importante.

Hace muchos años me sorprendió alegremente la oración de un niñito de cinco años,  quien a la hora de alimentos en su casa oró diciendo: “Gracias Dios mío, por la vaquita de abuelito que me dio leche hoy, por las matas de mango y de mandarina, y el pollito que me regaló mi tía” El hermano mayor del niño se burló  de la ingenuidad del menor, pero la sabia abuela aprovechó la oportunidad para dar la enseñanza: “Todos debemos aprender a ser agradecidos como Ismael”.

Son muchos, incontables e inconmensurables, los favores que Dios nos proporciona, siempre más de los que realmente somos capaces de expresar. El hombre y la mujer agradecidos no deben olvidar nunca el darle gracias a Dios en y por todo. Esta gratitud también hay que encaminarla en dirección horizontal, expresando al prójimo nuestro respeto y agradecimiento. ¡Con cuánta sorpresa y satisfacción nos miran los trabajadores de la esfera de los servicios cuando les expresamos nuestra gratitud por su atención!

Demos gracias a Dios en todo y a nuestro prójimo también.

Oración: Señor, te damos gracias por todas tus bendiciones y todo tu amor para con nosotros. Amén.
