WATERS THAT CLEANSE AND RESTORE

EZEKIEL  47: 1-2.8-9

Wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live…

            The language contained in the prophetic books gives the impression of holding great mysteries and truths, and this beautiful narrative is proof of that.  With simple language, this trip on which God takes us together with the prophet, first to the house, along the roads, by the rivers, through the lowlands and then the depths, until finally arriving at the sea, is like inviting us to enter fully into those waters that cleanse and restore everything.

            This trip which finally comes to where the waters are drained reminds of our own experiences in the sea. When I was a child, I remember that if I had a wound, my mother would say, “On the beach you will be healed.” We know that saltwater can purify, cleanse, regenerate and heal. Likewise, we also know that too much salt can be very harmful. The Dead Sea is named thus because it contains a great concentration of salt and therefore has no plant or animal life. Swimming is another marvelous experience of regeneration which eliminates muscle tension and allows us to stay in shape, or what might be the same, alive.

            What a fascinating way God has to invite us to enter the waters to be cleansed and become new people, to live life for real!

Prayer: God, let us enter those waters and so live forever in your presence. Amen.

LAS AGUAS QUE LIMPIAN Y RESTAURAN

EZEQUIEL  47: 1-2.8-9

Todo ser viviente que nade por dondequiera que entren estos dos ríos, vivirá…

Ezequiel 47:9

El lenguaje que contienen los libros proféticos da la idea de guardar grandes misterios y verdades. Y esta bella narración es prueba de ello. Con un lenguaje sencillo, este recorrido al que Dios nos lleva junto al profeta primero por la casa, por los caminos, por los ríos: en lo bajo y después en lo profundo, hasta finalmente salir al mar, es como invitarnos a entrar de lleno en esas aguas que limpian todo y que todo restauran.

Este recorrido que finalmente llega a donde las aguas son saneadas, nos hace recordar nuestras propias experiencias en el mar. Cuando era niña recuerdo que mi madre, si tenía una herida, me decía: en la playa se te sana. El agua salada sabemos que purifica, limpia, regenera, y sana. Igual sabemos que la sobreabundancia de sal puede ser muy perjudicial. El mar Muerto se llama así por la cantidad de sal que contiene, y ahí no habitan peces ni plantas. Nadar es otra experiencia maravillosa de regeneración que elimina la tensión de los músculos y nos puede mantener muy en forma, o lo que pudiera ser lo mismo, con vida.

¡Qué forma más fascinante la que Dios tiene de invitarnos a entrar en las aguas para limpiarnos y ser nuevas personas, para vivir la vida de verdad!

Oración: Dios, permite que podamos entrar en esas aguas y así vivir por siempre en tu presencia. Amén.
