Christ the King Sunday

CHRIST AND KING
LUKE 23: 35-45

Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
                                                                                                                                                                 Luke 23: 42b (CEB)

Today is the end of the Christian liturgical calendar with the celebration of Christ the King.  If we begin to analyze how humble the life of Jesus was, it might seem inconsistent to give him titles like this.  Perhaps Jesus would have many qualifiers less than this of Christ the King.  A King has riches and power, a Christ is dispossessed in human terms, but he is the Savior.

Jesus was a Christ the King who did not try to prove it, but on the contrary, his humble life is picked up in the gospels.  As Christians, our example to follow is Jesus the Christ, Savior of our lives.  Let us not be afraid to give new meaning to the sense of King.  To not see it in a way that validates oppressive powers, where some win and some lose, but where all of creation forms part of the Kingdom of God and his justice.

Jesus was born, lived and died humbly.  Let’s not pretend then to become part of those who place their faith in material possessions and positions, that are not those that rule over our life, because they do not lead anywhere.  Let’s not pretend to have treasure “on earth”, but “in the heavens”.  (Mt. 6:19-20)

Prayer: God of life, in the midst of your kingdom, show us the path of humility.  Amen.

Domingo del Reino (CRISTO REY)

CRISTO Y REY
                                    LUCAS 23: 35-45
