USING GOD’S POWER

MARK 1:35

O God, you are my God, I seek you,

 my soul thirsts for you;

 my flesh faints for you,

 as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalm 63:1 (NRSV)

            A famous composer was once asked how he could find his inner strength so quickly after a period of great effort, and he replied, “When I find myself tired after creating a composition, I withdraw to pray. This simple remedy never fails me.”

            Believers who speak to God when they need to strengthen themselves communicate with the source of all strength, the very one that is All Powerful. Through prayer, Christ himself gives us the most beautiful example of how to resist the pressures of life. From Mark’s Gospel we know that after an exhausting day in which he had taught, healed, cast out demons, and slept very little, Jesus withdrew to a place apart before the sun rose to talk with his Father and to renew his spiritual vigor.  If indeed the Son of God felt it necessary to prepare his heart before the start of a new day, how much more do we, weak humans, need to take time to pray before facing our responsibilities.

            Whoever recognizes the difficulties and demands of life should never undertake anything without first asking the Lord to direct her or him. We can be sure that prayer will always renew our strength.

Prayer: Lord, every day let us feel the need to seek strength in you through prayer. May we undertake nothing without first seeking your guidance. Today we pray for pastors and their families; guide them in their ministries. Amen.

UTILIZAR EL PODER DE DIOS

MARCOS 1:35

Dios, Dios mío eres tú; de madrugada te buscaré;

mi alma tiene sed de ti, mi carne te anhela

Cierta vez le preguntaron a un célebre compositor cómo volvía a hallar tan rápidamente su fuerza interior después de un período de grandes esfuerzos, y él contestó: “Cuando me siento cansado, después de haber creado una composición me retiro a orar. Nunca me falló este sencillo remedio”.

Los creyentes que le hablan a Dios cuando necesitan fortalecerse, se comunican con la fuente de toda fuerza: el mismo Todopoderoso. Cristo, mediante la oración, nos dio el más hermoso ejemplo de cómo resistir a las presiones de la vida. Por el evangelio de Marcos sabemos que Jesús, después de un día agotador en que había enseñado, curado, echado demonios y dormido muy poco, se retiró a un lugar apartado antes que saliera el sol, para hablar con su Padre y renovar su vigor espiritual. Si el Hijo de Dios consideraba necesario preparar su corazón al comienzo de un nuevo día, ¡cuánto más necesitaremos nosotros, débiles humanos, tomarnos un tiempo para orar antes de afrontar nuestras responsabilidades!

El que se da cuenta de las dificultades y exigencias de la vida nunca debería emprender algo sin antes pedirle al Señor que le dirija. Podemos tener la seguridad de que la oración siempre renovará nuestras fuerzas.

Oración:  Señor, permite que cada día sintamos la necesidad de buscar la fuerza en ti mediante la oración. Que no emprendamos nada sin antes pedir tu guía. Hoy te pedimos por los pastores, las pastoras y sus familias, guíales en sus ministerios. Amén.
