LET’S PRAY FOR OUR PASTORS

2 THESSALONIANS  2: 16, 3:5

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NRSV)

            The world watched with pleasure the election of a Latin-American Pope. It was the first time this had happened, and Catholic or not, all of us in this part of the world rejoiced at this appointment. Some of us were eagerly waiting for his first speech from the balcony which overlooks the Plaza of St. Peter in Rome. If anything caught me in the first speech of Pope Francis, it was the humility with which he spoke to the people gathered there when he asked them to pray for him.

            God does not give us burdens that we cannot bear, but we know that sometimes our leaders lack the strength to carry on with so many responsibilities. This text which encourages us to stand firm in the Word of God also urges believers to pray for their leaders so that the Word of God may be glorified.

            The great burdens of work can be devastating for mental, physical, and spiritual health. We know that we all need rest in God and to recover our strength, but we also know that prayer can help us to wage many battles. Let’s pray for our pastors and lay leaders that God may strengthen them to continue to glorify God’s Word.

Prayer: Thank you for the men and women who serve you; thank you for the call that enables them to serve your people. Help them so that together we may move ahead proclaiming your name and your grace to the world. Amen.

Y el  Señor encamine  vuestros corazones al amor de Dios, y a la paciencia de Cristo

2 Tesalonicenses 3:5

El mundo miró con agrado la elección de un papa Latinoamericano. Era la primera vez que esto pasaba, y católicos o no de esta parte del mundo nos alegramos con este nombramiento. Algunos hasta esperamos su primer discurso desde el balcón que da a la plaza de San Pedro, en Roma. Si algo me cautivó del primer discurso del Papa Francisco fue la humildad con que se dirigió al pueblo allí reunido, donde les pidió que oraran por él. 

Dios no nos da cargas que no podamos llevar, pero sabemos que a veces a nuestros líderes les faltan las fuerzas para llevar adelante sus muchas responsabilidades.

Este texto, que invita a estar firmes en la palabra de Dios, también invita al pueblo creyente a orar por sus líderes para que la palabra de Dios sea glorificada.

Las muchas cargas de trabajo pueden ser devastadoras para la salud mental, física y espiritual. Sabemos que todos necesitamos descansar en Dios y recuperar nuestras fuerzas, pero también sabemos que la oración puede ayudarnos a librar muchas batallas. Oremos por nuestros pastores y pastoras, líderes laicos, para que Dios les capacite y sigan adelante glorificando su Palabra.

Oración: Gracias por los hombres y mujeres que te sirven, gracias por el llamado que les hiciste de servir a tu pueblo. Cuídales para que juntos podamos seguir proclamando tu nombre y tu gracia al mundo. Amén.
