TRUST AND STRENGTH FOR DIFFICULT TIMES

Exodus 32: 1-14

…Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, who brought us our of Egypt, we don’t know what’s become of him. (NIV)

Exodus 32: 1b

The image of the people who had left slavery in Egypt, complaining to Aaron and asking him to make a god that would guide them, because “that” Moses was long overdue in returning from the mountain, greatly reminds me of our squalid trust in God during difficult times.

Rarely, when humans go through bad times, do we consider how much responsibility we have in what’s happening. Facing the horrors of this world: illness, death, wars, etc., there are many who ask why God allows these things to happen. There are  far fewer who think that, many times that it’s the result of our actions. Man has ruled over what God has offered him to protect: relationships, community, the animals and plants, and even other humans.

We’ve forgotten “that God” who created us to co-participate; we prefer to blame and make ourselves a golden calf to worship because it will make us less responsible.

Prayer: Merciful God, may we be faithful to you in evil times. Amen.

CONFIANZA Y VALOR PARA LOS TIEMPOS DIFICILES

Exodo 32: 1-14
