OUR GOAL IS THE COMMON GOOD

Philippians 2: 1-4

Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others..

 Philippians 2:4 (NRSV)

            As individuals, it is easy to recognize personal desires and conveniences and then turn them into purposes. When we try to think as a community, it becomes considerably more difficult to summarize the desires and needs of all its members and, even more so, to turn them into objectives to be achieved by all together, following the same path. Nevertheless, we know that the sense of an inclusive community project is fundamental to Christianity.

            In spite of knowing this, frequently personal interests make us move away from that common walk or, what is worse, our  being guided by rivalry and pride gets in the way of our brothers. Therefore, it is always opportune to remember that for love Christ has given us the Holy Spirit and, with him, not only the power but also the duty to encourage and console those who need it, to be compassionate and to walk together in harmony in that common path towards the realization of purposes that encompass the good of all and of each one.

 

 

Prayer: Lord,  grant me the needed humility to put aside our individual interests for the benfit of the common Good. Amen.

NUESTRA META ES EL BIEN COMUN

Filipenses 2: 1-4

Ninguno busque úúnicamente su propio bien, sino también el bien de los otros.

Filipenses 2:4

             Como individuos, resulta fácil reconocer los deseos y conveniencias personales y luego convertirlos en propósitos. Cuando intentamos pensar como comunidad, se complica considerablemente resumir los anhelos y necesidades de la totalidad de sus miembros y, aún más, convertirlos en objetivos a alcanzar por todos juntos, siguiendo el mismo camino. Sin embargo, sabemos que el sentido de proyecto comunitario inclusivo es fundamental al Cristianismo.

             A pesar de saberlo, frecuentemente los intereses personales nos hacen alejarnos de ese andar común o, lo que es peor, interponernos en el camino de nuestros hermanos, siendo guiados por la rivalidad y el orgullo. Por eso, siempre es oportuno recordar que por amor Cristo nos ha dado el Espíritu Santo y, con él, no solo el poder, sino también el deber de animar y consolar a quienes lo necesiten, de ser compasivos y andar unidos en armonía, ese camino común hacia la realización de propóósitos que abarquen el bien de todos y de cada uno.

 

Oración: Señor, concédeme la humildad necesaria para posponer nuestros intereses individuales en beneficio del bien común. Amén.
