AN APPOINTMENT WITH GOD

Exodus 33: 7-11

Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.”

            Do I have a “meeting tent?” Do I retire to meet the Lord? It’s true that we can cry out to God in many ways, in the midst of our daily activity, from our homes or among the members of the community of faith. However the Lord also asks for moments in which the encounter is exclusive, that we prepare ourselves to go to him. Additionally, the Lord expects us to appear at this appointment free of ornaments: without dissimulation or appearances, without justifications or false adornments to cover up our faults. He knows our limitations, He knows everything.

            Once at the meeting place, we must speak with God as Moses did, face to face. Let us not be afraid. The Lord is a close, understanding, merciful Father. He knows who we are, he knows us, he loves us. He expects a lot from his people, but it doesn’t choke or overwhelm him when the results do not correspond to what was expected. On the contrary, he encourages, he gives his hand. He says things clearly and he expects the same from us. Since the time of Moses our God was wonderful and incomparable in the art of two-way communication and interaction.

 

Prayer: We give you thanks, dear God, for attending our appointments without hesitation, making the only condition that we carry a contrite heart. Amen.

UNA CITA CON DIOS.

Éxodo 33: 7-11

Moisés tomó la tienda de campaña y la puso a cierta distancia fuera del campamento, y la llamó tienda del encuentro.

Éxodo 33: 7

            ¿Tengo yo una “tienda de encuentro”? ¿Me retiro a encontrarme con el Señor? Es verdad que podemos clamar a Dios de muchas maneras, en medio de nuestra actividad diaria, desde nuestros hogares o entre los miembros de la comunidad de fe…, sin embargo el Señor también pide momentos en los que el encuentro sea exclusivo, que nos dispongamos a ir hacia Él. Además, el Señor espera que nos presentemos a esta cita libres de atavíos: sin disimulos ni apariencias, sin justificaciones ni falsos adornos para encubrir nuestras faltas. Él conoce nuestras limitaciones, lo sabe todo.

            Una vez en el lugar del encuentro, debemos hablar con Dios como lo hacía Moisés, cara a cara. No tengamos miedo. El Señor es Padre cercano, comprensivo, misericordioso. Sabe quiénes somos, nos conoce, nos quiere. Espera mucho de su pueblo, pero no le asfixia ni agobia cuando los resultados no se corresponden con lo esperado, al contrario, le anima, le da la mano. Dice las cosas con claridad y eso mismo espera de parte nuestra. Ya desde la época de Moisés nuestro Dios era maravilloso e incomparable en el arte de la comunicación e interacción bidireccional.

 

 

Oración: Gracias te damos, Dios amado, por acudir sin reparo a nuestras citas, poniendo como única condición que llevemos un corazón contrito. Amén.
