REJOICE TWICE

Philippians 4: 1-7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

Philippians 4: 4 (NRSV)

            Concerning this letter, some call it the epistle of joy. Generally, what should describe the Christian, bitterness or joy? In all of Holy Scripture, the only occasion where it says “I say again” is here. We should always show joy for many reasons, but especially for knowing that “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

            Tattoos are fashionable, especially among the youth. In my case, I am covered with them, but they are spiritual; they are countless and also significant because they mark behaviors. The majority of them have been tattooed for Sunday worship, devotions, prayer, sharing of the Word, acts of service, witnesses of others, into an infinity of positive information that makes it possible to transform negativity into the opposite. The leaders who attract the most attention are those who bring a dose of humor to adverse circumstances in life. In this, Cubans hold Olympic medals.

            The Elder Mariana Isla Alegre has the honor of her name because all who know her know that she represents joy. The ideological-spiritual battle that my mother waged in relation to my good father, to whom she was bound by a profound love, caught them in old age, but he gave himself to Christ, thanks to the pastor, and before he departed this life, he said to his beloved wife, “You were always right.”

 

Prayer: Our Father, thank you for creating us to give witness to or faith by infecting others with the joy of salvation, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

ALEGRARSE DOS VECES

Alégrense siempre en el Señor. Repito: ¡Alégrense!

            A esta carta algunos le llaman la epístola de la alegría. En general, ¿que debe caracterizar al cristiano, la amargura o el gozo? En las Sagradas Escrituras la única ocasión que se dice “repito” es en esta porción. Debemos mostrar alegría siempre, entre muchas razones por saber que “somos más que vencedores por medio de aquel que nos amó” (Romanos 8:37).

 

            Están de moda los tatuajes, en especial entre los jóvenes. En mi caso estoy repleto de ellos, pero son espirituales; son incontables y además significativos pues marcan comportamientos. La mayoría han sido “tatuados” por los cultos de los domingos, los devocionarios, la oración, el compartir la Palabra, las acciones de servicio, los testimonios de otros, en infinidad de información positiva que posibilita transformar la negatividad en lo contrario. Los líderes que más atraen la atención son aquellos que le ponen una dosis de humor a circunstancias adversas en la vida. En eso los cubanos tenemos medallas olímpicas.

 

            La presbítera Mariana Isla Alegre le hizo honor a su apellido porque todos los que la conocieron saben que le caracterizaba la alegría. La batalla ideológica-espiritual de mi madre con relación a mi buen padre, a quien le unía un amor profundo, les cogió la ancianidad, pero él se entregó a Cristo a travéés del pastor, y antes de su partida le dijo a su amada esposa: siempre tuviste la razón.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro, gracias porque nos creaste para dar razón de nuestra fe, para contagiar a otros con la alegría de la salvación. En el nombre de Jesucristo. Amén.
