NOT VANDALISM BUT LOVE

Romans 13: 5-14

Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

 Romans 13:10

            In 2020 an unjust case of homicide by asphyxiation of George Floyd on the part of a police officer in the United States occurred that led to repercussions in acts of destruction and vandalism, alongside of peaceful protests across the nation and in other countries. Those last are the ones that God approves as is said so well in the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Mt. 5:9) Those who have applied this standard of action have been perpetuated in statues that cannot be toppled: Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, etc.

            In his book about reconciliation The Great Message, Pastor Daniel Izquierdo Hernández tells us, “Atonement thus has as its ultimate goal in maintaining the state of relationship between God and the community, something Yahweh is NOT willing to give up for his own merciful inheritance.” (Pp. 42-43) The word love and its derivatives appear about 676 times in the Bible. Mercy cannot exist without love.

            This leads us to reflect that in the face of the highly risky circumstances that arise in our lives we need to act with fervent prayers and actions of mercy, forgiveness, and reconciliation that include peaceful and wise dialogues. We cannot allow violent and unmeasured reactions to overwhelm our actions toward our neighbor.

 

Prayer: Our Father, give us a great heart for loving and reconciling beyond race and place, that we may aspire to be called your children, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

El amor no hace mal al prójimo; así que el cumplimientode la Ley es el amor

            En el 2020 ocurrió un caso injusto del homicidio por asfixia de G. Floyd por parte de un oficial de la policía en EE.UU, que repercutió en actos de destrucción y vandalismo, junto a protestas pacíficas en la nación y en otros países. Estas ultimas son las que Dios aprueba, pues bien lo dice las Bienaventuranzas: “Felices los pacificadores porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios” (Mateo 5:9). Los que han aplicado esta norma de acción han quedado perpetuados en estatuas que no se pueden derrumbar: Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, etc.

 

            En el libro EL GRAN MENSAJE, sobre reconciliación, su autor, el pastor Daniel Izquierdo Hernández nos dice: “Expiación tiene así como objetivo final mantener el estado de relacionamiento entre Dios y la comunidad, algo a lo que Yahvé NO está dispuesto a renunciar por su propia herencia misericordiosa" (pag 42-43). La palabra amor y sus derivados aparecen alrededor de 676 en la Biblia. No existe misericordia sin amor.

            Esto nos lleva a reflexionar que ante circunstancias altamente escabrosas que se presentan en nuestras vidas tenemos que actuar con fervientes oraciones y acciones de misericordia, perdón, y reconciliación que incluyen diálogos pacíficos y sabios. No dejemos que reacciones violentas y desmesuradas inunden nuestro proceder ante el prójimo.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro danos un corazóón grande para amar, reconciliar, por encima de razas y lugar, y que podamos aspirar a ser llamados tus hijos. Por Jesús. Amén.
