DISCIPLES AND APOSTLES

LUKE   6: 12- 16

When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.

Luke 6: 13 (NIV)

Here we find that Jesus called twelve from among his many disciples, and from that time on, they were commissioned to follow him on his journey to the cross and to spread his words of salvation and justice. And he called them “apostles.”

Why is it said that for these twelve, he called them apostles? There are many of us disciples who learn in the church and believe in God. The apostles must put their best qualities at the service of Jesus Christ. It is not necessary to be better or different. The Lord seeks simple hearts, not perfection.

This is what it is to be an apostle: to live and share the faith as Jesus did and to heal both body and soul. It means to have a faith that is proclaimed through the service to the sorrowful and the abandoned, to those who are sick in body and whose hearts are empty, and to those who wait without hope.

Let us be apostles, with a sacred mission: to bring the Gospel of Christ to everyone.

Prayer: Eternal Father, thank You for the gift of salvation, for You have called us sons and daughters. O, God, grant that we may we share this gift with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DISCÍPULOS YAPÓSTOLES.

LUCAS   6: 12- 16
