THE LORD IS RETURNING SOON
PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7
...The Lord is near…
Philippians 4:5b
“Put on a good front in bad times” could have been the spirit that
inspired Paul’s words when he wrote his letter to the Philippians. The storm of
persecution had already befallen the believers of that congregation. Paul
himself was a prisoner in Rome; nevertheless, this man felt the duty of
accompanying his brothers in faith who live in a time of tribulation, and does
it by using words of joy and happiness. “Be
always filled with joy, I repeat,
be joyful.”
Many people live each day complaining about
their illnesses and problems; they hardly have time to think about the problems
of other people, much less offer them hope.
Let’s ask ourselves: How would the people who
submitted to days of danger and persecutions receive those words? Paul knew
perfectly well that Christian joy didn’t depend on anything earthly; rather
that it had its source in Christ’s presence. Therefore, he knew that whoever
had Christ in his heart would always be joyful. That sentiment is fortified
when the certainty that the Lord is near is made more vivid, that he is coming
soon. If we trust in that, the dangers and evils that stalk us are unimportant;
we will never again lose our hope and our joy.
Prayer: Father, prepare us to wait for
you. Bless us each day of our lives until we are face to face with you. Help us
to share words of hope and joy so others may be able to confront the
tribulations and difficulties of each day with faith in you. We pray in Jesus’
name, our hope. Amen.

...El Señor está cerca...

“Al mal tiempo buena cara”, ese pudiera ser el espíritu
que anima estas palabras del Apóstol Pablo cuando escribe su carta a los
Filipenses. Ya se había desatado para los creyentes de aquella congregación la
tormenta de la persecución. El mismo Pablo se encontraba preso en Roma. Sin
embargo, este hombre siente el deber de acompañar a sus hermanos en la fe que
viven un presente de tribulación, y lo hace utilizando palabras de gozo y
regocijo. Estén siempre llenos de alegría”. “Lo repito, ¡alégrense!
Muchas personas viven cada día quejándose por sus
enfermedades y problemas, apenas les queda tiempo para pensar en los problemas
de los otros y mucho menos para brindar esperanza.
Preguntémonos ¿Cómo recibirían aquellas palabras las
personas que presentían días de peligro y persecuciones? Pablo sabía
perfectamente que la alegría cristiana no depende de nada terrenal, sino que
tiene su fuente en la presencia de Cristo. Por eso él sabía que quien tiene a
Cristo en su corazón siempre estará alegre. Ese sentimiento se fortalece cuando
se hace más vivida la certeza de que el Señor está cerca, que vuelve pronto. Si
en eso confiamos, no importan los peligros y males que nos acechen, jamás perderemos
nuestra esperanza y nuestra alegría.
Oración: Padre,
prepáranos para esperarte. Bendícenos cada día de nuestras vidas hasta que
estemos cara a cara contigo. Ayúdanos a compartir palabras de esperanza y gozo
para que las personas puedan enfrentarse a las tribulaciones y dificultades de
cada día, con fe en ti. En el nombre de Jesús, nuestra esperanza, oramos. Amén.
