A JOB WITH NO RETIREMENT

JOSHUA 24:14-18

But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

It is entirely natural for a person reaching legal retirement age to retire. Some see retirement as a release from work, because for them the job is almost a punishment. For others retirement is the start of a new phase in their lives. Now I ask myself: Is there a retirement in the Christian life? After how many years as a Christian can I retire? After Joshua announces that he is already old, he outlines what will continue to be his life in the future: We will serve the Lord.

There is no retirement law in Christian service. We have to continue serving our God every minute of our lives. Don’t you feel sometimes that there are brothers and sisters in the community that seem to be in the process of retiring because they have already done enough for the Church? When there is a joyful life in the Lord, Christian service is not a punishment but a privilege. Therefore, we continue to enjoy it for life.

Prayer: Lord, give us strength to carry out the ministry to which you have called us in our Christian life. Amen.

Lo más natural es que una persona que llegue a la edad laboral se acoja al retiro. Algunos miran al retiro como una oportunidad para alcanzar la libertad del trabajo, para ellos el trabajo es poco menos que un castigo. Para otros el retiro es el comienzo de una nueva etapa en su vida. Me pregunto ahora: ¿Y en la vida cristiana existe el retiro? ¿A los cuántos años de cristiano puedo retirarme? Después que Josué hace el anuncio de que ya es viejo, bosqueja lo que continuará siendo su vida en el futuro: Yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová.

En el servicio cristiano no existe la ley del retiro. Tenemos que continuar sirviendo a nuestro Dios mientras haya un minuto de vida. ¿No te da la sensación de que a veces hay hermanos y hermanas en la comunidad que parecen como si estuvieran en los trámites del retiro, porque ya han hecho bastante por la Iglesia? Cuando existe una vida gozosa en el Señor, el servicio cristiano no es un castigo, sino un privilegio. Por lo tanto, se continúa haciendo con gozo para toda la vida.

Oración: Señor, danos fuerza para cumplir con el ministerio al cual tú nos has llamado en la vida cristiana. Amén.
