Friday, January 4 AS I AM, LORD MATTHEW 23:1-8

Friday, January 4
AS I AM, LORD
MATTHEW 23:1-8
. . . you have one instructor, the Messiah.
Matthew 23:10b (NRSV)
The Pharisees' problem was that they were preoccupied with appearances, struggling desperately to make a good impression, feeling superior to those around them.

It pleases Jesus when his children live a life of obedience, not only being good, but even more so by giving witness to life in God’s love. However, his desire is that things begin to be transformed from within, in truth, love, and faith and not simply in caring for appearances. The unique manner of being reborn in the truth is by coming to Jesus, allowing the marvelous character of God’s Son to be reflected in human life, not by our works but solely by God’s grace. In the Bible, we find many examples of people who went to Jesus just as they were; they learned to live with him, and at the end of their days, they reflected Jesus’ character.

Don’t be afraid to submit to Jesus just as you are; don’t let your mistakes take you away from him. Rather, draw closer, learn to live with him and let him reproduce in your life his marvelous character.

Prayer: Beautiful God, who challenges me and confronts me with my mistakes, receive me today as I am because I want to live with you every moment of my life. Use me, Lord, for your work in such a way that my life may reflect and share your love with my neighbor. In your sweet Name. Amen.

Translation by John Potter

TAL COMO SOY SEÑOR

MATEO 23:1-8

tenéis un solo Maestro, el Cristo

Mateo 23:10b
