Holy Saturday
THE TOMB IS SEALED
JOHN 19:38-42
When they finished
doing everything that had been written about him,
they took him down from the cross and laid him
in a tomb.
Acts 13:29 (CEB)
This Saturday is the emptiest of days.
The body of God rests in peace.
Today is the day that Jesus is in the tomb. His body, cold and
full of wounds, is in the silent darkness.
He is alone, not even accompanied by his mother. All has
finished. Yes, Jesus has died, but in
order to give us life.
Love never fails. Today requires
solemnity. The Evangelist tells us that it was two brave men who took care
of the body of Jesus. One was Joseph of Arimathea--a rich man involved in
politics. He remained in anonymity when the Lord was praised. Now in these very difficult moments, he
appears. The other is Nicodemus who appears right now, when he is most needed,
when confusion reigns. He was the same one who came to see Jesus at
night, for fear of political reprisals.
But now he is not afraid that they see him. He arrived bringing a mix of myrrh and
aloe. We must give thanks for the help
of these two men!
God speaks to us with his dead body. What
does the Lord want to say to me with his death?
Although the whole world abandons you:
I will serve you, Lord!
Prayer: O God, forgive my
cowardice in leaving you alone when you most need me. Give me courage and
strength to not abandon you. Amen.

LA TUMBA LO ENCERRÓ
JUAN 19:38-42
Una vez que llevaron a
cabo todo lo que las profecías decían acerca de él, lo bajaron de la cruz y lo
pusieron en una tumba
Hechos 13:29
Este sábado es el más
vacío. El cuerpo de Dios descansa en paz. Hoy es el día en el que Jesús está en
el sepulcro. Su cuerpo, frío y lleno de heridas, está a oscuras y en silencio.
Está solo, ni siquiera le acompaña su madre. Todo ha terminado. Sí, Jesús
ha muerto, pero para darnos vida.
El Amor nunca fracasa.
Hoy es un día para corresponder en serio. Nos dice el Evangelio que hubo dos
hombres valientes que se ocuparon del cuerpo de Jesús. Uno era José de
Arimatea. Hombre rico y metido en política. Permaneció en el anonimato cuando
el Señor fue aclamado. Ahora en estos momentos tan duros, aparece. El otro es
Nicodemo que se presenta justo ahora, cuando más hace falta, cuando reina el
desconcierto. Era el mismo que acudía a ver a Jesús de noche, por miedo a
represalias políticas. Pero ya no tiene miedo a que le vean. Llegó trayendo una
mezcla de mirra y aloe. ¡Cuánto agradecemos la ayuda de estos dos hombres!
Dios nos habla con su
cuerpo muerto. ¿Qué me querrá decir el Señor con su muerte?
Aunque todo el mundo te
abandone: yo te serviré, Señor.
Oración. Oh Dios, perdona mi
cobardía al dejarte solo cuando más me necesitas. Dame valor y fortaleza para
no abandonarte. Amén.
