DO WE LOVE OTHERS?

MATTHEW 5:22-24

…Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable

to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will

be in danger of the fire of hell.

Of all the leaders who have existed in human history, and there have been many, one deserves admiration and respect: Mahatma Gandhi.

This man, although not a Christian, preached and practiced love to others, based on tolerance and nonviolence. Without being a Christian, he carried out the commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Although we profess to be Christians, often we fail to love others, and not only persons in the world, but brothers in Christ, because we don’t tolerate members of other denominations and other religions.

Sadly we often forget that we are a single church, a single body, one in spirit; and we don’t even support each other, shielded in theological interpretations of the Scriptures, which are at best human interpretations of divine truths, the greatest of which is love.

Prayer: Lord, make our hearts love our neighbors without questioning what church or religion they belong to. May we be not concerned with “who is my neighbor,” but rather “to whom am I a neighbor.” May we share the love of Jesus at every moment. Amen.

¿NOS TOLERAMOS?

MATEO 5:22-24

De todos los líderes que han existido en la historia de la humanidad, y no han sido pocos, hay uno que merece admiración y respeto: Mahatma Gandhi.

Este hombre, sin ser cristiano, proclamó y practicó el amor a sus semejantes, basado en la tolerancia y la no violencia. Cumplió, sin ser cristiano, con el mandamiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.

Nosotros, que nos decimos cristianos, muchas veces no llegamos a tolerar a nuestros semejantes, y no nos referimos a las personas del mundo, sino a nuestros hermanos en Cristo, pues somos intolerantes con los miembros de otras denominaciones y de otras religiones.

Olvidamos tristemente y con frecuencia, que somos una sola iglesia, un solo cuerpo, uno en espíritu; y no llegamos siquiera a soportarnos los unos a los otros, escudados en interpretaciones teológicas de las Escrituras, las cuales no son más que aproximaciones del ser humano a las verdades divinas, siendo la mayor de todas el amor.

Oración: Señor, haz que nuestros corazones amen a nuestro prójimo sin cuestionar a qué Iglesia o religión pertenece. Que no nos interese tanto descubrir “quién es mi prójimo”, sino “de quién soy prójimo”. Que encarnemos el amor de Jesús en cada momento. Amén.
