THE MIRACLE OF LOVING TO DO WELL

Mark 1: 40-45

Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the mam. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. (NIV)

Mark 1:41-42

In each of Jesus’ miracles we can appreciate a particularity: each one carries with it an important message. Faced with the leper’s statement, “If you want, you can cure me,” Jesus answers, “Yes, I am willing.” These words contain one of the most mobilizing principles of his ministry: Jesus ALWAYS wanted to help those who needed it. He always found space in the midst of his fatigue, in large crowds, in his own fears and concerns to extend his hearing, his word, and his action in relation to others.

But in order to consolidate a vocation of service, we must have a genuine desire to help others. We must feel that the time we offer is a selfless gift that turns into good. How many times do we rush, put up a wall, and close ourselves off, so as not to see the solution? In every situation of need there will be something that we can do for others, even if we do not have the conditions that we believe are optimal. Because we have prayer and faith–hand in hand–some door will open, as long as we are in a position to say, “Yes, I want to help.”

 

Prayer: God of life, may we find in the miracle of supporting others the most beautiful way to serve you. Amen.

EL MILAGRO DE QUERER HACER BIEN

Marcos 1: 40-45

En aquel tiempo, se le acercó a Jesús un leproso para suplicarle de rodillas: “Si tú quieres, puedes curarme ”. Jesús se compadeció de él, y extendiendo la mano, lo tocó y le dijo: “¡Sí quiero: Sana!”

Marcos 1:41-42

En cada milagro de Jesús podremos apreciar una particularidad, cada uno guarda consigo un importante mensaje. Ante la afirmación del leproso: si tú quieres, puedes curarme, Jesús contesta: Sí, quiero. Estas palabras encierran uno de los principios más movilizadores de su ministerio: Jesús SIEMPRE quería ayudar a quienes lo necesitaran. Siempre encontraba espacio en medio de su cansancio, de las grandes multitudes, en medio de sus propios miedos y preocupaciones, para extender su oído, su palabra y su acción en función de los demás.

Pero para poder consolidar una vocación de servicio, hay que tener ganas genuinas de ayudar al prójimo, hay que sentir que ese tiempo que ofrecemos es un regalo desinteresado que se convierte en bien. ¿En cuántas ocasiones vamos apurados y ponemos un muro nosotros/as mismos para no ver la solución? Ante cada situación de necesidad habrá algo que podamos hacer por los demás, aún si no tenemos las condiciones que creemos óptimas, pues poseemos la oración y la fe, y con ellas de la mano se abrirá alguna puerta, siempre que estemos en disposición de decir: si, yo quiero ayudar.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, que encontremos en el milagro de apoyar a otras y otros la manera más hermosa de servirte. Amé
