I WAS THIRSTY

Matthew 25:31-46

“ The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”.

Matthew 25:40 NIV

Jesus calls us to treat the poor with dignity and respect as if we were dealing with Himself. He calls for compassion and mercy. We do not see Jesus personally, so the only way to show that we love and serve Him is to do what is good, noble and just to the underprivileged, for He tells us that those who show mercy to the poor and needy will be rewarded in heaven.

God’s expectations of us in caring for the vulnerable are woven throughout scripture. In Deuteronomy 15:10, Moses instructs the people how to treat the poor and says: You shall give to him without fail, and you shall not be stingy in heart when you give to him, for thereby the Lord will bless you in all your deeds and in all that you do

Ignoring the suffering of the poorest has consequences. We will be judged by the way we behave in the context and realities in which we live. The goodness that we receive from God must be shared so that it may be multiplied.

Let us use this Lent to look within ourselves at how we are acting towards our neighbor in the midst of the situations we face on a daily basis. Let us only trust that by our actions God is looking upon us with favor.

 

Prayer: Lord, make our lives consistent with your Word and may our desire to follow you be expressed in the practice of your visible goodness and mercy. Amen.

TUVE SED

Mateo 25:31-46

Y respondiendo el Rey, les dirá: De cierto os digo que en cuanto lo hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos más pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis.

Jesús llama a tratar a los pobres con dignidad y respeto como si trataran con Él mismo, llama a la compasión y la misericordia. A Jesús no lo vemos personalmente, la única manera de demostrar que le amamos y le servimos, es haciendo lo bueno, noble y justo con los desvalidos, porque nos dice que los que muestran misericordia con los pobres y necesitados tendrán recompensa en el cielo.

Las expectativas de Dios con nosotros en cuanto al cuidado de los vulnerables se entretejen en toda la escritura. En Deuteronomio 15:10, Moisés le enserra a la gente como tratar a los pobres y dice: Sin falta le darás y no serás de mezquino corazón cuando le des, porque por ello te bendecirá el Señor en todos tus hechos y en todo lo que emprendas

Ignorar el sufrimiento de los más pobres tiene consecuencia, y seremos juzgados por la manera en que nos comportamos en el contexto y realidades que nos toquen vivir, porque las bondades que de Dios recibimos debemos compartirlas para que sean multiplicadas.

Sirva esta Cuaresma para mirar en nuestro interior cómo estamos actuando con nuestro prójimo en medio de las situaciones que enfrentamos en el dia a dia. Solo confiemos en que por nuestras acciones Dios nos está mirando con agrado.

 

Oración: Señor, haz que nuestras vidas se manifiesten coherentes con tu Palabra y que nuestro deseo de seguirte sea expresado con la práctica de tu bondad y misericordia visibles. Amén.
