JESUS, OUR BEST CHOICE

Luke 10: 38-42

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is needed.  It will not be taken from her (NIV).

Among the great challenges human beings experience, and that have to do with everyday life, is the permanent choice we must make when faced with the options that are presented to us. By human nature, we always try to decide what is best for ourselves, our families and those closest to us. An important issue would be to think about what we mean by “the best” in our choices.

In this biblical passage, Jesus comes to visit his friends Martha and Mary. They receive him with joy, as when a very beloved friend who is close to the family arrives at our homes. To this day, we consider issues in the same way, we try to give the best compliment, the best food, the greatest celebration. But in this case, Mary does not pay attention to what the family prepares to flatter the Master and friend, she sits close and listens to his teachings, dialogues, questions. She admires him, and takes advantage of the opportunity to learn and fall in love with his vision of the Kingdom of God.

There are many things every day to do in our homes: domestic tasks, caring for our children, caring for the elderly, food, school, work, and so many others. However, Jesus confronts us in the response to Martha. “You worry and worry about many things, and there is a need for few, or better, just one.”

 

Prayer: I am grateful for your guidance, Holy Spirit. We come to you to always ask for your inspiration and light in the face of the options that are presented to us. May our best choice be to always listen to the voice of the Master and follow his will. In Jesus we ask you. Amen.

JESÚS, NUESTRA MEJOR ELECCIÓN

Lucas 10: 38-42

Le respondió el Señor: Marta, Marta, te preocupas y te agitas por muchas cosas; y hay necesidad de pocas, o mejor, de una sola. María ha elegido la parte buena, que no le será quitada.

Entre los grandes desafios que vivimos los seres humanos y que tiene que ver con la cotidianidad es la elección permanente que debemos hacer ante las opciones que se nos presentan. Por naturaleza humana siempre intentamos decidir por lo mejor para nosotros, nuestras familias y los más próximos. Un tema importante seria pensar en qué entendemos por “lo mejor” en nuestras elecciones.

En el pasaje biblico Jesús llega a visitar a sus amigas Marta y Maria, ellas lo reciben con alegria, como cuando llega a nuestras casas un amigo muy amado y cercano a la familia. De igual forma que hacemos hasta nuestros dias intentamos hacer el mejor halago, la mejor comida, la mayor celebración; pero en este caso Maria no presta atención a lo que la familia prepara para halagar al Maestro y amigo, ella se sienta cerca y escucha sus enseñanzas, dialoga, pregunta, se admira, aprovecha la oportunidad de aprender y enamorarse de su visión de Reino de Dios.

Cada dia hay muchas cosas que hacer en nuestras casas, tareas domésticas, atención a nuestros hijos, cuidado de los adultos mayores, la alimentación, la escuela, el trabajo, y tantas otras, sin embargo, Jesús nos confronta en la respuesta a Marta te preocupas y te agitas por muchas cosas; y hay necesidad de pocas, o mejor, de una sola.

 

Oración: Agradecidos de tu guia, Santo Espiritu, llegamos hasta ti para pedirte siempre tú inspiración y luz ante las opciones que se nos presentan. Que nuestra mejor elección sea siempre escuchar la voz del Maestro y seguir su voluntad. Por Jesús te lo pedimos. Amén.
