SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25th

GOD PROVIDES FOR THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM

Genesis 22:1-18

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

The biblical story of the Father of faith and his son Isaac is very popular among Christian communities. When I was young listening to it, I was amazed that Abraham had such a strong faith that he was ready to sacrifice his own son in order to please God. I remember once asking my mom if she would do the same and she responded without hesitation: NO! That is why I grew up admiring Abraham’s faith from afar, like something supernatural, unattainable for ordinary people.

When I had my own children, I understood that the faith of that father was so great, not because he was ready to give up his son, but rather because he was sure that God would provide for him a different solution. Now I reread the passage and imagine Abraham taking slow steps preparing for his mission, looking up to search for a sign, begging God from deep within his heart, trusting that He would answer and provide for him.

And God did, as he continues to do for each one of his children.

 

Prayer: God, thanks be always to you, who were able to give your only begotten son for each one of us, to provide salvation for us. Amen.

DIOS PROVEE A QUIEN EN ÉL CONFÍA

Génesis 22:1-18

Y Abrahán respondió: “Dios proveerá el cordero para el holocausto, hijo mío.” Y juntos siguieron caminando.

La historia biblica del Padre de la fe y su hijo Isaac es muy popular entre las comunidades cristianas. Cuando era pequeña y la escuchaba, me asombraba de que Abrahán tuviera una fe tan robusta, que estuviera dispuesto a sacrificar a su propio hijo para agradar a Dios. Recuerdo que en alguna ocasión le pregunté a mi mamá si ella harsa lo mismo, a lo que ella respondió sin titubear: ¡NO! Por eso crec s admirando la fe de Abrahán desde lo lejos, como algo sobrenatural, inalcanzable para personas comunes.

Cuando tuve hijos, entends que la fe de aquel padre era tan grande, no porque estuviera dispuesto a entregar a su hijo, sino porque estaba seguro de que Dios le proveersa una solución diferente. Ahora releo el pasaje e imagino a Abrahán dando pasos lentos mientras prepara su misión, levantando la mirada para buscar una señal, gimiendo a Dios desde lo más profundo de su corazón, confiado en que le respondersa y le proveersa.

Y ass lo hizo Dios, y lo sigue haciendo con cada uno de sus hijos.

 

Oración: Dios gracias siempre a ti, que fuiste capaz de entregar a tu hijo unigénito por cada uno de nosotros, para proveernos salvación. Amén.
