OF OBEDIENCE AND DISOBEDIENCES

Acts  5:27-33

…Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!

Acts 5:29 (NIV)

The apostles appear before the Sanhedrin for disobeying the order not to teach in the name of Jesus. Underlying this act of disobedience is a profound conviction of obedience to God.

Just as in apostolic times, today we need to obey God. Yet, this obedience entails a measure of disobedience toward anything that opposes God. To this end, it is essential to identify the source of our obedience to the Lord. Does it stem from fanaticism, or from unfounded fears?

True obedience arises from a deep and living encounter with the risen Christ, from sensing the presence of the Spirit in our lives. Even so, obeying God is at times difficult; it entails embracing Jesus’ ethical vision amidst any circumstance, requiring us to forsake our comforts, overcome our fears, and fill ourselves with courage to remain steadfast before the “Sanhedrins” of our own day.

However, we are not alone on this journey; the very Spirit who sustained the apostles sustains us, sets us free, and strengthens us to uphold our testimony.

Prayer: Lord, fill us with courage to respond to your voice with humility and integrity. May our obedience to you always be an act of love. Amen.

DE OBEDIENCIA Y DESOBEDIENCIAS

Hechos  5:27-33

…Es necesario obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres

Hechos 5:29

Los apóstoles comparecen ante el Sanedrín por desobedecer la orden de no enseñar en el nombre de Jesús.  Detrás de este acto de desobediencia se manifiesta una profunda convicción de obediencia a Dios.

Como en los tiempos apostólicos, hoy necesitamos obedecer a Dios. Mas esta obediencia incluye una cuota de desobediencia a todo aquello que se opone a Dios. Para ello es preciso identificar de donde proviene nuestra obediencia al Señor. ¿Acaso nace del fanatismo, o de temores infundados?

La verdadera obediencia surge del encuentro profundo y vivo con el Cristo resucitado, de sentir la presencia del Espíritu en nuestras vidas. Aun así, obedecer a Dios en ocasiones es difícil, implica ser parte de la propuesta ética de Jesús en medio de cualquier circunstancia, nos exige abandonar nuestras comodidades, superar nuestros miedos y llenarnos de valentía para ser coherentes ante los sanedrines actuales.

Más no estamos solos ni solas en este camino, el mismo Espíritu que soportó a los apóstoles, nos sustenta, nos hace libre y nos fortalece para mantener nuestro testimonio.

Oración: Señor llénanos de valentía para responder a tu voz con humildad y coherencia. Que nuestra obediencia hacia ti siempre sea un acto de amor. Amén
