GOD ALWAYS PROVIDES

1 KINGS 17:1-16

“For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.”

1 Kings 17:16

God promised the prophet Elijah that He would take care of him during the drought.  His faith in divine providence was transmitted to the widow who helped him.  Both of them believed in this promise and were blessed with a continual provision of bread and oil to supply their needs. 

Elijah’s experience reminds me of the miracle when Jesus multiplied the bread and the fish.  According to this story, Jesus asked his disciples to feed the multitude that had come to hear him. But how were they going to do this?  They didn’t have any food and were only able to obtain two fishes and five loaves of bread.  Jesus ordered his disciples to seat the people and then blessed the food.  After everyone had eaten, there were twelve baskets filled with leftovers.

I recall times when I’ve prepared a meal for two persons.  Then unexpected visitors arrived and we invited them to share with us, and there has always been enough for everyone, with food to spare.  So let’s listen to God, and be thankful for what he offers us daily and in faith let us share what we have with others.

Prayer: We give you thanks, oh God, because you provide for our needs.  Help us to remember that we need to share our blessings with others. Amen.  

DIOS SIEMPRE SUPLE

1 REYES 17:1-16

“La harina de la tinaja no escaseó, ni el aceite de la vasija menguó, conforme a la palabra que el Señor había dicho por Elías.”

1 Reyes 17:16

Dios le prometió al profeta Elías que cuidaría de él durante la sequía. Su fe en la providencia divina fue transmitida a la viuda que le ayudó. Ambos creyeron en esa promesa y fueron bendecidos con una provisión interminable de pan y aceite para suplir sus necesidades.

La experiencia de Elías me recuerda el milagro de Jesús al multiplicar los panes y los peces. Según este relato, Jesús les pidió a los discípulos que alimentaran a la multitud que lo había ido a escuchar. ¿Pero cómo iban a hacerlo? No tenían comida y sólo consiguieron dos pescados y cinco piezas de pan. Jesús ordenó a los discípulos que sentaran a las gentes y luego bendijo los alimentos. Después de que todos comieron, sobraron doce cestas llenas. Yo recuerdo ocasiones en que he preparado comida para dos personas. Luego han llegado visitas inesperadas y les hemos invitado a compartir con nosotros, y siempre ha habido suficiente para todos y nos ha sobrado. Escuchemos pues a Dios, agradezcamos lo que él nos ofrece diariamente y compartamos en fe con otros lo que tenemos.

Oración: Te damos gracias oh Dios, porque tú suples nuestras necesidades. Ayúdanos a recordar que debemos compartir con otros nuestras bendiciones. Amén.
