LET US OPEN OUR HEARTS 

ACTS 19:1-6

“When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.”

Acts 19:6

There is a famous painting titled “The Light of the World” that shows Christ in a garden at midnight knocking on a gate with one hand, while holding a lamp in the other.  The first time that the painting was exhibited, an art critic said to the painter:  “Maestro, your painting is unfinished.  The gate doesn’t have a lock.”  The painter replied: “That is the gate to the human heart, which can only be opened from within.”

 

When the Apostle Paul returned to Ephesus, he encountered a group of very poorly instructed disciples at the church and when he asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit after their conversion, visibly astounded they replied: “We haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit”. He immediately guided them to a better understanding.  He baptized them in the name of the Lord and the Spirit of God came upon them.  

 

Today, as then, we encounter people who call themselves Christians, but who have not felt the life-giving warmth of Christ in their lives. So they remain in darkness, because the gates to their hearts remain closed, waiting perhaps to hear the firm knock of the Teacher, who, once inside, will be able to guide them through the luminous pathways that lead to God.

 

Prayer: Allow us, Lord, to open our hearts in order to be guided by your Holy Spirit. Amen.  

 

 

ABRAMOS NUESTROS CORAZONES

HECHOS 19:1-6

“Y habiéndole impuesto Pablo las manos,

vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo”

Existe un cuadro muy famoso titulado “La luz del mundo” que representa a Cristo en  un jardín a media noche tocando con su mano una puerta, mientras en la otra sostiene una lámpara. La primera vez que el cuadro fue presentado en  una exposición un crítico de arte le dijo a su autor: “Maestro, tu cuadro está sin terminar. La puerta no tiene cerradura” El pintor contestó: “Es la puerta del corazón humano, que sólo puede abrirse desde adentro”

Cuando el Apóstol Pablo regresó a Éfeso se encontró en la iglesia con un grupo de discípulos muy mal instruidos y cuando les preguntó si habían recibido el Espíritu Santo después de su conversión, visiblemente asombrados contestaron: “Ni siquiera hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo”. Inmediatamente los guía a un mayor conocimiento. Los bautiza en el nombre del Señor y viene sobre ellos el Espíritu de Dios. Tanto ayer como hay nos encontramos con personas que dicen ser cristianas,  pero no han sentido el calor vivificante de Cristo en sus vidas. Así, permanecen en tinieblas, porque las puertas de sus corazones siguen cerradas, esperando tal vez oír el toque firme del Maestro, quien una vez dentro, podrá guiarlas por los senderos luminosos que conducen a Dios.

 

Oración: Permítenos Señor, abrir nuestros corazones para ser guiados por tu Santo Espíritu. Amén.
