KNEELING TO PRAY AT YOUR BEACH

ACTS 21:1-6

“But when our time was up, we left and continued on our way.  All the disciples and their wives and children accompanied us out of the city and there at the beach we knelt to pray.”

Acts 21:5

There are moments at which life appears to be a sea filled with present and future unknowns. We stand upon its shores. What are we to do?  Paul and his brothers in the faith of Jesus were willing to toss themselves into the sea sustained by their trust in God, who is always the God of the future, as they knelt before Him.

The great physicist Newton said that he was like one who knelt and gathered the small pebbles and seashells on the beach while in front of him, the sea of the great mysteries of the Universe extended in its immeasurable vastness.  Such is our human existence. We face an immensity of mysteries… the unknown of the creation, of the future, of life and of death.  There are some who want to make us believe that they know everything. They fool themselves and attempt to fool us.  The more we learn about everything around us, the more our ignorance increases, just as the sea expands before us.

Each moment of our lives has extraordinary worth. Every decision made leaves behind an infinite number of decisions that we do not make and that would have made our lives different.  And who can say that he or she has always made the best decision?  The human being faces an unfathomable sea of possibilities.  Taking life seriously, he is always humbly on his knees on account of his possible errors.

Prayer: God, guide us and make us worthy of the pathway that you want us to take. Amen.

DE RODILLAS EN TU PLAYA

HECHOS 21:1-6

“Y cumplidos aquellos días, salimos acompañados de todos,

con sus mujeres e hijos, hasta fuera de la ciudad;

y puestos de rodilla en la ribera, oramos”

Hechos 21:5

Hay momentos en que la vida se nos aparece como un mar lleno de lo desconocido del presente y del futuro. Nosotros a la ribera.  ¿Qué hacer? Pablo y sus hermanos en la fe de Jesús se dispusieron a lanzarse al mar sostenidos por su confianza en Dios, que es siempre el Dios del futuro, arrodillándose ante Él.

Decía  el gran físico Newton que él era como uno que arrodillado recogía las piedrecitas y caracoles de una playa mientras frente a él, el mar de los grandes misterios del Universo se extendía  con su inmensidad inconmensurable. Así es nuestra vida humana. Frente a nosotros una inmensidad de misterios... La incógnita de lo creado, del futuro, de la vida y la muerte. Hay quienes quieren hacernos creer que lo saben todo. Se engañan y pretenden engañarnos. Mientras más sabemos acerca de todo, más aumenta nuestra ignorancia, puesto que más se amplía el mar ante nosotros. El valor de cada momento de nuestra  vida es extraordinario. Cada decisión tomada deja atrás infinito número de decisiones que no tomamos y que haría distinta nuestra vida. ¿Y quién puede decir que siempre ha tomado la mejor decisión? Frente al mar insondable de posibilidades está el ser humano, que toma en seriedad la vida, que está siempre arrodillado en humildad por sus posibles errores.
