WHEN GOD SAYS NO

LUKE 22:39-44

“Yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Luke 22:42

A girl told her friend that at the same time that she asked her parents for a box of candies, she prayed to God so that she would get what she wanted. In the end the girl received her response and it was a “no”. Her friend said to her: “See that, God didn’t answer your prayer.”  “Yes, he did,” replied the girl.  “He told me no.”

There is a hymn with the following request:   “Teach me the patience of prayer without a response”…at least “without a response” according to my patience.  Isaiah 55 quotes God in this way: “Because my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your pathways are not my pathways.” A person proposes, but God decides. We pray, we act, we love; but we also have to surrender our ideas, desires, attitudes, attachments, and allow God to do his work.  

Prayer: Oh God, forgive me for the times that my mind and heart were not large enough to understand everything that you are doing and that everything is in your hands and under control. Help me to accept your will and to believe in you even when the response is not the one I’d hoped to receive. Amen.

“No se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya”

Una niña le dijo a su amiga que al mismo tiempo que pedía una caja de bombones a sus padres, oraba a Dios para que su deseo fuera una realidad. Finalmente la respuesta para la niña llegó y fue un “no”. Su amiga le dijo: “Ya ves, Dios no te contestó tu oración”. “Pues sí que me la contestó” respondió la niña. “Él me dijo que no”.

Hay un himno que contiene la siguiente súplica: “Enséñame la paciencia de la oración sin contestación”. Por lo menos “sin contestación” en los términos míos. Isaías 55 cita a Dios  de esta forma: “Porque mis pensamientos no son tus pensamientos, ni son tus caminos mis caminos.”

Una persona propone, pero Dios dispone. Oramos, hacemos, amamos; pero también tenemos que desprendernos de nuestras ideas, deseos, actitudes, apegos y permitir que Dios haga lo suyo.

Oración: Oh Dios,  perdóname por las veces en que mi mente y corazón  no son los suficientemente grandes para comprender todo lo que tú estás haciendo y que tú tienes todo en tu mano, bajo control.  Ayúdame a aceptar tu voluntad y a creer en ti aunque la respuesta no sea la esperada. Amén.
