FIRM IN THE FAITH

Hebrews 11:1 and 6

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith…”

1 Corinthians 16:13

“Faith, have faith and you will see what miracles truly are,” said Saint John Bosco, an Italian priest born in Turin in the second decade of the nineteenth century.  Observing his eventful life we can ascertain that only his faith could have made possible the realization of his work.  That self-denying and humble priest, teaching in his school for poor children, lacked what was indispensable in order to support them.  Relying on his unquenchable faith in God, he would go to the city in search of help. He would ask his disciples to support him in prayer, taking turns two by two until his return, which he always did laden with everything needed for supporting his poor children.  Saint John Bosco has bequeathed us the miracle of his faith, that mental attitude that made him believe in the unlimited power of God.

Faith, which is certainty of that which cannot be seen, but for which one hopes, works in accordance with the idiosyncrasies of each individual. Faith conquers all. It is the victory over fear, illness, loneliness, injustice, life and even over death.  Faith conquers the world, and fills us with peace and calm.

Prayer: Lord, increase faith within us and give us your peace. Amen.

“Manténgase atentos y firmes en la fe;

sean fuertes y valientes”

1 Corintios 16:13

«Fe, tened fe y veréis lo que son milagros», dijo San Juan Bosco, sacerdote italiano nacido en Turín, en la segunda década del siglo XIX. Observando su vida azarosa se puede constatar que solo su fe pudo hacer posible la realización de su obra. Aquel abnegado y humilde sacerdote, enseñando en su colegio a niños pobres, carecía de lo más indispensable para el sostenimiento de los mismos; apoyado en su inquebrantable fe en Dios iba a la ciudad en busca de ayuda. Solicitaba a sus discípulos mantenerse en oración, turnándose de dos en dos hasta su regreso, que siempre lo hizo colmado de todo lo que necesitaba para el sostenimiento de sus niños pobres. San Juan Bosco nos legó el milagro de su fe, esa actitud mental que le hizo creer en el ilimitado poder de Dios.

La fe que es seguridad de lo que no se ve y se espera, obra de acuerdo con la idiosincrasia de cada individuo. Creo, personalmente, que todos tenemos fe. La fe lo vence todo. Es la victoria sobre el temor, la enfermedad, la soledad, la injusticia, la vida y aun sobre la muerte. La fe vence al mundo, y nos colma de paz y sosiego.
