BE OPENED!

Mark 7:31-37

“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.”

Matthew 4:23

In an era of communications there is more loneliness than ever.  The loneliness of the elderly, of spouses who do not participate in anything, of parents who don’t understand their children, of children who don’t speak with their parents.

And even worse, we don’t even hear ourselves, much less the Lord, who speaks only in the deep silence of the heart where we never descend.

This is why the healing of the deaf-mute has relevance for us today.  The Lord took him aside, away from the crowd, so that he would know that he was not just another person for him.  Upon touching his tongue and his ears he tells the deaf-mute, in the only language he can understand, that he wants to heal him, and to have faith.  And with a deep sigh before God, out of compassion for that deaf man and for the others, he exclaims:  “Be opened!”

May God have mercy on us when he sees each of us in our isolation and alone within ourselves.  And may those who know us, self-centered and deaf to God’s call, upon seeing us open to all, be able to exclaim alongside that multitude: “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Prayer: Lord, open my ears and my eyes that I may hear and see and know what you want from me. Amen.

Marcos 7:31-37

“Jesús predicaba el evangelio del reino,

y sanaba toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo”

Mateo 4:23

En la era de las comunicaciones hay más soledad que nunca. Soledad de los ancianos, de los esposos que no participan en nada, de los padres que no entienden a los hijos, de los hijos que no hablan con sus padres. 

Y lo que es peor, ni nos oímos a nosotros mismos, ni mucho menos al Señor, que solo habla en el silencio hondo del corazón y allí no bajamos nunca.

Por eso tiene tanta actualidad esta curación del sordomudo, a quien el Señor aparta de la multitud, para que se sepa que no es uno más para él. Con tocarle la lengua y los oídos le dice en el único lenguaje que el sordomudo entiende que le quiere curar, que tenga fe. Y con un suspiro de pena por ver a aquel hombre sordo para Dios y para los hombres le grita: “¡Ábrete!”

Qué Dios no llore por nosotros al vernos a cada uno aislados en nosotros mismos. Y que los que nos conocen, egoístas y sordos a la llamada de Dios, al vernos abiertos a todos, puedan exclamar como aquella muchedumbre: “Todo lo ha hecho bien, hasta hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos”

Oración: Señor, abre mis oídos y mis ojos para que pueda oír y ver para saber qué es lo que quieres de mi. Amén.
