WE CONTINUE CLUELESS

Mark 9:30-37

“It is you, Lord, who sustains my life.”

Psalm 54:4

Who are society’s “important” people? Not a few would say: those of higher learning, those we see frequently on television, a popular singer or a high performance athlete, or those who are applauded for the charge or the position they hold.

The disciples continued on clueless. Many Christians also exhaust themselves in struggles to be known as superior, the most important; meanwhile the fields remain “unsown.”

But things didn’t go that way for Jesus Christ. He thought differently. He tells us that the important people are those who serve; generally the anonymous men and women who sit in the unreserved seats and receive no tributes, but are devoted to simple and selfless service to others: People unaccustomed to receiving praise or flattery, but who worry for the sake of another’s happiness.

Jesus is definitely a “rare type;” we struggle to understand his way of thinking and to follow him; but when we imitate his style…My God, what a pleasure!

Prayer:  Lord, make me humble; make me able to recognize that what’s important in life isn’t smothered in applause or praise, rather in service. Amen.

¿Quiénes son las personas “importantes” para la sociedad? No pocos dirían que: los que tienen un título de altos estudios, los que salen a cada rato por televisión, un cantante de moda o un atleta de alto rendimiento, o quienes son aplaudidos por el cargo o la posición que ostentan.

Los discípulos seguían sin entender nada, también muchos cristianos y cristianas se desgastan en luchas por ser reconocidos como los mejores, los más importantes… y mientras los campos se quedan sin “sembrar”.

Pero para Jesucristo, la cosa no va por ahí. Él piensa de manera diferente… Él nos dice que los que son importantes son los que sirven, por lo general los hombres y las mujeres anónimos, los que no se sientan en los primeros puestos ni reciben ningún homenaje, pero que se desviven en el servicio sencillo y desinteresado a los demás. La gente que no está acostumbrada a recibir halagos ni tiene aduladores, pero que se preocupa porque los demás sean felices.

Definitivamente, este Jesús es un “tipo raro”, cuesta entender su pensamiento y seguirle, pero cuando imitamos su estilo… ¡qué gustazo, Dios mío!

Oremos: Señor, dame humildad para reconocer que lo importante en la vida no está detrás del aplauso y el homenaje, sino en el servicio. Amén.
