THE EXACT DOSE
Matthew 18:23-35
“If you
forgive others of their sins,
your
celestial Father will forgive yours as well. ”

We all like to be absolved. Even when we’re
guilty of something. Beginning anew we feel approval and restored; it lets us
feel reconciled with the environment that surrounds us and returns our dignity,
which as human beings we need in order to live. Simultaneously, it reconciles
us with God. All of this implies a process of repenting and confession for our
errors, the acceptance of those affected, and happily the reconciliation
without which forgiveness is not possible.
The parable of the debtors is a key example to
illustrate how one should forgive.
This passage confronts us with a servant who had
substantial debts, and having begged for clemency, and having received his
master’s forgiveness he forgot the importance of not losing his life and
possessions on satisfying the debt, as well as recuperating his dignity as a
human being, now feeling himself free of the creditor’s yoke. He didn’t know to
love his neighbor as himself, and
less so how to apply the golden rule.
And he showed no mercy towards the even poorer servant who was indebted to him.
We need to keep in mind that, in referring to
the model prayer, the Lord will forgive our debts to the same degree that we
are capable of forgiving our debtors. This is the only way we can glorify God
in our lives.
Prayer: Lord, help
me to forgive as I would like others to forgive me. Amen.

A todos nos gusta
ser absueltos, aun cuando tengamos culpa de alguna cosa. Comenzar de nuevo,
sentirnos aprobados y restituidos, permite que nos sintamos reconciliados con
el medio que nos rodea, nos devuelve la dignidad que como seres humanos
necesitamos para vivir, al mismo tiempo que nos reconcilia con Dios. Todo esto
implica un proceso de arrepentimiento y confesión de nuestros errores,
aceptación por parte de los afectados, y felizmente la reconciliación, sin la
cual no se alcanza el perdón.
La parábola de los dos
deudores constituye un ejemplo clave para ilustrar cómo debe perdonarse.
Este pasaje nos
confronta con un siervo que tenía grandes deudas y una vez que pidió clemencia
y fue perdonado por su señor, se olvidó que si importante era para él no perder
la vida y los bienes al saldar la deuda, tanto o más lo era recuperar la
dignidad como ser humano al sentirse libre del yugo acreedor. No supo amar a
su prójimo como a él mismo, menos aplicar la regla de oro y se
abalanzó sobre el pobre consiervo sin misericordia alguna.
Tengamos presente
que, como refiere la oración modelo, el Señor perdonará nuestras deudas, en la
misma medida que seamos capaces de perdonar a nuestros deudores. Solo así
podremos glorificar a Dios en nuestras vidas.
Oración:
Señor, ayúdame a perdonar como quisiera que los demás
me perdonen a mí.
