NO TO LOW SELF-ESTEEM

Mark 10:46-52

“The Lord returns sight to the blind,

raises the fallen, and loves those who practice justice”

Psalm 146:6-7

My friend Felicia is one of those who take on everything with great optimism and dedication. To be near her is like receiving an injection of joy; and it makes me look at difficulties differently: as daily obstacles that are gradually disappearing through focused insistence and shared work.

The blind man Bartimaeus represents people like Felicia.  Despite his evident limitations his soul continues to be full of hope for change, to keep going forward, and to broaden horizons.

Due to his limitations Bartimaeus should have been a good candidate for depression. Nonetheless, he wasn’t. He knew he needed help, and he went out in search of it.  Hope and the beggar’s overflowing spirit were able to deflect God’s plans a little, so that God was moved by him.

Bartimaeus knew very well what he wanted. And he willingly took off his cloak, his miserable cloak, to be present at that saving encounter, because devoid of his only possession he would attain the grace his heart most desired: To see, and he did.

You and I should also pray that way: insistently, and do so with the mindset of the blind beggar; with humility.

Prayer: By your great mercy, have compassion on me and raise me up.

NO A LA BAJA AUTOESTIMA

Marcos 10:46-52

“El Señor devuelve la vista a los ciegos,

levanta a los caídos y ama a los que practican la justicia”

Salmo 146:6-7

Mi amiga Felicia es de esas personas que todo lo asume con gran optimismo y entrega, estar cerca de ella es como recibir una inyección de alegría, y me hace mirar las dificultades de otra manera, como obstáculos cotidianos que van desapareciendo a golpe de insistencia y de trabajo común.

El ciego Bartimeo representa a las personas como Felicia. A pesar de sus limitaciones, que son evidentes, su alma sigue llena de ilusión por cambiar, por seguir adelante, por ampliar horizontes.

Bartimeo por sus limitaciones debió ser un fuerte candidato a la depresión, sin embargo, no era un deprimido, sabía que necesitaba ayuda y salió a buscarla. La ilusión y el ánimo desbordado del mendigo fue capaz de torcer un poco los planes de Dios para que se apiadara de él.

Bartimeo tenía claro qué es lo que quería. Y para acudir a ese encuentro salvador no le importó dejar su manto, su miserable manto, porque así, desprendido de su única “riqueza”, alcanzaría la gracia que más anhelaba en su corazón: ver, y lo logró.

Así también tú y yo debemos orar, de manera insistente, y hacerlo con la actitud del mendigo ciego, con humildad.

Oración: Por tu gran misericordia, ten compasión de mí y levántame.
