WHAT MATTERS MOST
ECCLESIASTES 12: 1-13
“Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his
commandments,
for this is the whole
duty of man.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13
There is a story
about a man who saw God approaching him with a suitcase when he died. God said to him: “Well, son, it’s time to
go.” The man asked: “Already, so
soon? I had a lot of plans.” “I’m sorry,” said God. “What do you have in the suitcase?” asked the
man and God replied: “Your belongings.” “My
clothes, my things, my money?” God answered him: “Those things never belonged
to you. They belonged to the
earth.” “And my memories?” “Those never
belonged to you. They belonged to time.”
“And my talents?” “Those did not belong to you.
They belonged to the circumstances.” “And my friends?” “They were part
of your journey.” “And my wife and my children?” “They were part of your heart.” “Are you taking my body?” “It never belonged
to you; it was made of dust.” “So then
are you bringing my soul?” “No, that belongs to me.” Then the man grabbed the suitcase from God
and when he opened it he realized that it was empty and he said to Him: “So
then, I never had anything?” “That’s right.
Each one of the moments that you had belonged to you alone.”
Life is but a single
moment. That is why you need to enjoy it
in its entirety and in the moment. Live
in the here and now. Live your life. Don’t forget to be happy because that is what
is truly important. Material things and everything you fought to gain will
remain here. You will take nothing with
you. But the most important thing is: believe in God and worship him all your life
and keep his commands.
Prayer: Lord, we know that we
have much to learn about our true purpose here on earth. Do not allow us to change our path and to go
in the wrong direction. Amen.
LO MÁS
IMPORTANTE
ECLESIASTÉS
12: 1-13
“Tus pertenencias” “¿Mis ropas, mis cosas, mi dinero?” Dios le respondió: “Eso
nunca te perteneció. Eran de la tierra” “¿Y mis recuerdos?” “Esos nunca te pertenecieron. Eran del
tiempo” “¿Y mis talentos?” “Esos no te
pertenecieron.
No te llevas nada.
