SEEING THE PLANK IN OUR OWN EYES

LUKE 6:41-42

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Lucas 6:41

In this verse Jesus speaks to us about the major defect that we humans have: always seeking out and finding the defects of others but without seeing the same or even worse ones that we ourselves possess.

If we deeply weigh those words, we can find a teaching for our lives. We cannot idealize and believe ourselves to be perfect: this leads us to be unjust with others, considering them inferior to us in many instances. And the worst thing is that for the most part, we discredit ourselves with others.

Jesus tells us to be humble, to look inside ourselves, to weigh our defects, our errors, not just to know them, but to correct them. We will then be able to see how to help others.  We should hear Jesus’ words; he who did not condemn, but forgave instead, and who said:  He who has not sinned, let him throw the first stone.

Prayer: Lord, help us to always remember that we are imperfect and for humility to direct our lives.  Help us to use our eyes in order to seek the good in others and to comment only on their good deeds. Amen.

¿Por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano,

y no echas de ver la viga que está en tu propio ojo?

Lucas 6:41

En este texto Jesús nos habla del mayor defecto que tenemos los seres humanos, que es el buscar y encontrar siempre los defectos en los demás pero sin ver los mismos o aún peores que nosotros poseemos.

Cuando valoramos profundamente esas palabras podemos encontrar una enseñanza para nuestras vidas. No podemos idealizarnos y creernos perfectos; esto nos lleva a ser injustos con los demás, considerándolos en muchas ocasiones inferiores a nosotros y lo que es peor, la mayor de las veces, desacreditándolos con los demás.

Jesús nos manda a ser humildes, a mirarnos internamente, a valorar nuestros defectos, nuestros errores, pero no sólo conocerlos, sino enmendarlos; así podremos ver cómo ayudar a los demás. Debemos oír las palabras de Jesús, quien no condenaba, sino perdonaba, y dijo: Quien no tenga pecado, que tire la primera piedra

Oración: Señor, permite que recordemos siempre que somos imperfectos y que la humildad dirija nuestras vidas. Haz que usemos nuestros ojos para buscar lo bueno de los demás y que solamente comentemos sus buenas acciones. Amén.
