THE SANCTITY OF OUR
FEET
MARK 14:3-9
How beautiful on the
mountains
are the feet of those
who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings…
Isaiah 52:7a
We often pay attention to our hands; we wash
them carefully, we soften them with lotion, or we trim our fingernails. But
rarely do we care for our feet with such dedication. And our feet need our
attention, given that they carry our body and direct our steps.
Some texts in the New Testament speak to us
about the symbolism and sanctity of feet.
It says that on one occasion, in a family dinner, a woman anoints Jesus’
feet as a symbol of hospitality, dedication and respect for the Teacher. On
another occasion, Jesus himself, at the Last Supper, washes the feet of his
disciples in a gesture of humility and sincere love.
Today, the invitation
is to anoint our feet. We should be conscious of the load they need to carry
each day. How can we alleviate the burden and make our steps lighter? What byways do our feet travel each day? Are
they God’s ways, or are they our own? What footprints are we leaving in this
life-journey?
Prayer: Today we want to recognize the sanctity of
your feet, our good Jesus; you who traveled the ways of justice, solidarity, peace,
and genuine love. We want to anoint your feet as did that sensitive woman, but
with an authentic witness. Guide our feet so that we may never deviate from
your way. Amen.

LA SACRALIDAD
DE NUESTROS PIES
MARCOS 14:3-9
¡Qué hermosos
son, sobre los montes, los pies del
que trae
buenas nuevas; del que proclama la paz…!

Sucede que muchas veces
prestamos atención a nuestras manos, las lavamos cuidadosamente, las suavizamos con alguna crema o cuidamos de
nuestras uñas; pero raras veces cuidamos nuestros pies con tanto esmero. Y es
que los pies necesitan de nuestro cuidado, pues sostienen nuestro cuerpo y
conducen nuestros pasos
Algunos textos del Nuevo
Testamento nos hablan sobre el simbolismo y la sacralidad de los pies. Por un
lado se relata que en una comida familiar, en una ocasión, una mujer unge los
pies de Jesús, como símbolo de hospitalidad, dedicación, y respeto hacia el
maestro. Por otro lado, Jesús mismo, en la última cena, lava los pies de sus
discípulos como gesto de humildad y amor
sincero.
La invitación de hoy es a ungir
nuestros pies. Debemos ser conscientes de la carga que deben llevar a
diario ¿Cómo podemos aliviar la carga y
hacer nuestro paso más ligero? ¿Qué caminos transitan nuestros pies cada día?
¿Son los caminos de Dios o son nuestras propias veredas? ¿Qué huellas vamos
dejando en ese camino de vida?
Oración: Hoy
queremos reconocer la sacralidad de tus pies, nuestro buen Jesús, tú que
recorriste caminos de justicia, solidaridad, paz, amor genuino. Queremos ungir
tus pies como lo hizo esta mujer sensible pero con un testimonio auténtico.
Guía nuestros pies para que nunca nos desviemos de tu camino. Amén.
