Mother’s Day

MY FaMILY AND i

GENESIS 27:30-40

Believe in the Lord Jesus,

and you will be saved – you and your household/

We constantly hear about serious family problems, families in which the mother and daughter don’t speak to each other, where two siblings are fighting to the death, where someone robs or abuses another family member. The specialists offer different reasons: lack of material resources, multigenerational cohabitation, the speed with which life confronts us, and the freedom of being different as human beings. The situations can be as dissimilar as the causes that provoke this sad situation that is not uniquely ours.

Christians are not exempt from these problems. The Bible speaks of families with difficult situations. An example is the family of Isaac and Rebecca, the parents of the twins Jacob and Esau. Each parent had a favorite son. Rebecca helped her favorite to obtain the most sought after blessing of the firstborn, and he obtained it but was never seen again. By tradition, the father preferred and admired the son who would be his successor, without paying attention to the conditions of each son or the Lord’s prophecy, and as a result was tricked by his second son and could not fulfill his desires with respect to the first.

Today, rereading this passage in our context, we can ask ourselves: Where am I placing my family’s interests first, and where am I preferring my own interests? What is God’s place for me as guide and protector of my family? A perfect family doesn’t exist. Every day is a new challenge in family coexistence, but each day is also an opportunity to smooth over differences, to be tolerant and helpful, and above all the opportunity of putting our family in God’s hands.

Prayer: Lord, you know our family problems; we put them in your hands. Help us and illuminate us with your grace so that we may be able to live within our families with this peace that only you can give to us. Amen.

Mi familia y yo

GENESIS 27:30-40

Cree en el Señor Jesús, y obtendrás la salvación tú y tu familia

Constantemente nos enteramos de problemas familiares serios,  familias donde la madre y la hija no se  hablan, donde dos hermanos están peleados a muerte, donde alguien roba o abusa de otro familiar, los especialistas dan diversas razones: la escasez material, la convivencia de varias generaciones, la rapidez de la  vida, la libertad de ser diferentes como seres humanos, disímiles pueden ser las situaciones como disímiles las  causas que provocan esta triste situación que no es nuestra únicamente.

Los cristianos no estamos exentos de estos problemas, en la Biblia se nos habla de familias con situaciones  difíciles, un ejemplo es la familia de Isaac y Rebeca, padres de los gemelos Jacob y Esaú, cada hijo era el  preferido de uno de los padres: la madre ayudó a su preferido a conseguir lo más deseado, la bendición del  primogénito, y lo consiguió pero nunca más lo volvió a ver; el padre que por tradición prefería y admiraba al que sería su sucesor sin mirar las condiciones de cada hijo ni lo profetizado por el Señor, fue engañado por su segundo hijo y no pudo cumplir su deseo respecto al primero.

Hoy, en nuestro contexto releyendo este pasaje podemos preguntarnos, ¿en que lugar estoy poniendo los  intereses de mi  familia y en que lugar los míos como individuo?, ¿en qué lugar estoy poniendo a Dios como guía y protector de mi familia? No existe la familia perfecta; cada día es un nuevo reto en la convivencia  familiar, pero también es una oportunidad de limar asperezas, de tolerar, de ayudar y sobretodo de poner  nuestra familia en las manos de Dios.

Oración: Señor, tú conoces nuestros problemas familiares, los ponemos en tus manos, ayúdanos e ilumínanos con tu Gracia para que podamos vivir en familia con esa paz que solo tu puedes darnos. Amén.
