KEEP PUSHING

EZRA 4:1-5

This house was finished . . . in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

Ezra 6:15

I wonder how many people have abandoned an objective because they grew weary and discouraged. They abandoned everything, not realizing that success was at hand if only they were to continue to push.

The story goes that a good man lived in the countryside and had physical problems. One day Jesus appeared and told him, “I need you to go to that big rock in the mountains and push against it for a year.” Although the man was puzzled, he obeyed. He took himself to the mountain and began to push on the great rock with all his might for three days, but he couldn’t make it move a millimeter.

A little while later, someone approached and said to him, “Why do you keep obeying Jesus? I wouldn’t follow someone who made me do such hard and senseless work. You ought to go away, for it’s stupid to keep pushing against that rock; you’re never going to move it.”

The man tried to ask Jesus to help him not to doubt his wish, and although he did not understand, he stood fast in his decision to push. For months, every day until the sun hid itself below the horizon, the man continued to push against the enormous rock without being able to move it. Meanwhile his body was strengthened, his arms and legs became strong with the effort of all those days.

When he had fulfilled the time, the man lifted a prayer to Jesus and said, “There, I’ve done what you asked me to, but I failed; I couldn’t move the stone a centimeter.” Then he sat down and cried bitterly, thinking about his obvious failure. Just then, Jesus appeared and said, “Why are you crying? Did I not ask you to push against the rock? I never told you it would move; instead, look at yourself. Your physical problem has disappeared. You haven’t failed; you have fulfilled my goal, and you went according to my plan.” Often, like this man, we see adversities and situations in life as illogical, and we begin to seek our own logic, according to God’s will.

Zerubbabel and his workers faced innumerable delays and discouragements. It would have been much easier to quit, but they knew that God had commanded the construction of the Temple. They trusted God. When we think that the road ahead becomes too difficult, we must not stop. Continue with determination. God will always provide us with the courage we lack. Today is a call to “push” no matter how many doubtful thoughts the enemy puts in our minds. Put everything in Jesus’ hands, and He, through his will, will never waste time, but will make us stronger instead.

Prayer: God, give us perseverance in the completion of work in your service. Amen.

SIGUE LUCHANDO

ESDRAS 4:1-5

Me pregunto cuántas personas no han llegado a alcanzar un objetivo debido a que se cansaron y desalentaron. Abandonaron todo, sin darse cuenta de que el éxito estaba a su alcance si tan solo hubieran seguido luchando.

Cuentan que un buen hombre vivía en el campo y tenía problemas físicos. Un día se le apareció Jesús y le dijo: "Necesito que vayas hacia aquella gran roca de la montaña, y te pido que la empujes día y noche durante 1 año". El hombre quedó perplejo, pero obedeció. Se dirigió a la montaña y empezó a empujarla la enorme roca con todas sus fuerzas, día tras día, pero no conseguía moverla ni un milímetro. Al poco tiempo alguien se acercó y le dijo:  "¿Por qué sigues obedeciendo a Jesús? Yo no seguiría a alguien que me  haga trabajar tanto y sin sentido. Debes alejarte, ya que es estúpido que sigas empujando esa roca, nunca la vas a mover". El hombre trataba de pedirle a Jesús que le ayudara para no dudar de su voluntad, y aunque no entendía se mantuvo en pie con su decisión de empujar. Con los meses, desde que se ponía el sol hasta que se ocultaba aquel hombre empujaba la enorme roca sin poder moverla, mientras tanto su cuerpo se fortalecía, sus brazos y piernas se hicieron fuertes por el esfuerzo de todos los días. Cuando se cumplió el tiempo el hombre elevó una oración a Jesús y le dijo: "Ya he hecho lo que me pediste, pero he fracasado, no pude mover la piedra ni un centímetro". Y se sentó a llorar amargamente pensando en su evidente fracaso.  Jesús apareció en ese momento y le dijo: "¿Por qué lloras? ¿Acaso no te pedí que empujaras la roca? Yo nunca te pedí que la movieras, en cambio mírate,  tu problema físico ha desaparecido. No has fracasado, yo he conseguido mi meta, y tú fuiste parte de mi plan". Muchas veces al igual que este hombre, vemos como ilógicas las situaciones y adversidades de la vida, y empezamos a buscarle nuestra lógica, a la voluntad de Dios.

Zorobabel y sus obreros afrontaron innumerables retrasos y desalientos. Hubiese sido más fácil abandonar. Pero ellos sabían que Dios había ordenado la construcción del templo, y ello les dio confianza. Cuando creamos que el camino se hace difícil, no desistamos. Sigamos con empeño. Dios estará siempre dándonos el aliento que nos falta. El día de hoy es un llamado a "empujar" sin importar qué tantos pensamientos de duda ponga el enemigo en nuestras mentes, pongamos todo en las manos de Jesús, y Él por medio de su voluntad nunca nos hará perder el tiempo, mas bien, nos hará más fuertes.

Oración:  Oh Dios, danos constancia en el cumplimiento del trabajo a tu servicio. Amén.
