GOD WITH US
REVELATION 21:1-7

I have
always noted the way in which we Christians conceive of God: God is mystery and
at the same time God is close and familiar.
The idea
that the eternal and transcendent God is at the same time a God who cares about
us like a father with his sons and daughters, a God who cries with their
sorrows and rejoices with their victories; and a God who desires that all will
be united as one great family, is a unique aspect of the Christian faith.
The gods of
other religions always have been far removed from the daily life of the people.
The gods of the ancient Greek and Roman myths had to be placated or they would instill
fear. The idea of having a close and personal relationship with these deities
did not exist. In Christianity, however, Jesus is understood as the Son of God
and we all are his brothers and sisters. He called God “Abba”, which means
Daddy. And he promised to never leave his followers, assuring them that he will
be with them always.
It is
evident that Jesus wanted quality time with his large family, formed by all of
those who respond to his love. Let us not ignore this time together with God
who always has his ear ready to hear our needs and our concerns, God who is
Father and Mother of us all.
Prayer: Thank
you, Lord, for you are always with me. I ask you to help me be more conscious
of your presence. Amen.

DIOS CON NOSOTROS
APOCALIPSIS 21:1-7

Apocalipsis 21:6a
Siempre me ha llamado la atención la manera en que nosotros, los
cristianos, concebimos a Dios. Dios es misterio y al mismo tiempo es un Dios
cercano y familiar.
La idea de que el Dios eterno y trascendente, al mismo tiempo es un
Dios que se preocupa como un padre por sus hijos e hijas, llora con sus
tristezas y se alegra con sus victorias; y desea que todos estén unidos como
una gran familia, es un aspecto de la fe, particularmente del cristianismo.
Las deidades de otras religiones siempre han estado distantes de la
vida diaria de la gente. Los dioses de los antiguos mitos griegos y romanos
debían aplacarse o provocaban temor. La idea de tener una relación cercana y
personal con esas deidades no existía. Sin embargo, Jesús en el cristianismo es
concebido como el hijo de Dios y todos nosotros somos sus hermanos y hermanas.
Él llamaba a Dios “Abba” es decir papaíto. Y prometió que nunca dejaría
a sus seguidores y les aseguró que estaría con ellos para siempre.
Es evidente que Jesús deseaba tiempo de calidad con su gran familia,
formada por todos aquellos que respondieran a su amor. No desechemos ese tiempo
junto al Dios que siempre tiene su oído atento a nuestras necesidades y
nuestras angustias, al Dios que es padre y madre de todos nosotros.
